spring or fall?
You always hear that spring and fall fishing are the best, but for me, fall fishing is tough, and often on then off again...Around here in the fall its either cold rain and overcast, or bluebird skies...the overcast dry days that everyone thinks should be killer, are slow...
Anyone else prefer spring fishing to fall besides me? |

springtime is my favorite time of the year.i do prefer fall over summer simply because you will usually catch bigger fish, not more, just bigger.i have to agree with you about fall fishing being tougher than crap sometimes.

well doesn't this stink... The two best fishermen i know of around the northeast say fall is hard. and i couldn't even catch in the spring. Oh joy.

Smallies up here in the fall are killer, they are putting on their winter chub. They are usually active ,Sunny days are really good and cloudy days are OK I guess. Tubes bouncing off bottom while drifting works for me in the fall. Remember the fish get a little lazy with the cold water change. Slow you presentation down on cold days to give o'l mister bass the chance to get up on your bait.

I gotta agree rob, the smallies up here are the best thing about fall, pick any overcast day and either go top water or crank something chartruse/firetiger

Spring, b/c you have hungry prespawners, you can scope out ponds while they bed, and you can hone your skills fishing post spawn. I do love an afternoon spinnerbait in october though....

The lakes and resouviors and ponds are all low in the fall around here, in mid oct. they lower them to winter pool, but I guess fall is officially here, so I'd better go out and enjoy some fishing while I can...
Also carry a crappy rig *just in case* the last several weeks I've caught some 13 inch slabs on the rogue, while bass fishing. |

Usually this is the time of year the smallies school together and chase shad in the lake. They will try to trap them in the corners and have a feeding frenzy. Look for schools of shad and the bass won't be too far behind.

I prefer summer or spring.
Spring, just cause the best days are ahead and winter is a good ways away., Summer, I am actually at my best in the heat of summer, it is the most consistent to me. Now fall you can clean up if you hit it right, or you can end up getting confounded. I think the more you fish, the more likely you are to latch on to the fall patterns.

Well In Hoosier land anytime was fine for me, here in Florida, anytime other than summer LOL. I wish the cooler weather would hit soon.

it will......in late nov./early dec.
well as they say down here, we have 2 seasons, summer and fall. I really haven't noticed a difference in catch rates. some days I can figure out their locations and patterns, some days I can't, regardless of seasons. even during the spring there are times I'll hit a lake and can't find a bed for the life of me while other days I can find more beds than I can throw a lure at.

Basically fall and spring fishing in a lot of ways are very simailar. In the fall as the water cools down the fish move up to shallower water to feed up before they go deep for the winter. Spring fishing the fish move up to shallower water to feed (and spawn) as the water gets warmer before they go deep for the summer. You fish the back of pockets and coves during the spring and throw lizards and spinnerbaits. Fall move to the flats and points where your bait fish are and throw jerkbaits and crankbaits.

I'd say fall-the weather is more stable. Spring here usually has weekly cold front with howling north winds and bluebird skies. Last year we had a front blow through 6 weeks straight-on FRIDAY .

I am really looking forward to fall, as this is my first fall seriously fishing, and now I have a boat. Been doing good in size, rather than numbers lately though. Cant wait to get out on anna, in the dead of winter, and fish.

Can't really say down here. From late Sept to April just goes off some times. I really consider myself lucky to be in central Fl.. December can be harsh at times, we don't get near what you northerners encounter but for me 40 degrees w/ a strong wind puts me in the house. Call it thin blood or whatever. Im really getting psyched for the next month or two down here.

i like fall because there is less cold fronts and i like to fish for schooling fish, you can catch a bunch in a few minutes. i also like winter because i like fishing finesse baits really slow. i like spring and summer too,i guess i just like fishing all the seasons!

I caught more fish the other night at Whitewater Lake in Indiana than I have all year. For some reason, we couldn't do any wrong.
