Default Fishing line?

I was thinking and decided to post a topic on line.
What kind of fishing line do you like to use and for what application?
What is your favorite braid, monofilament, fluorocarbon and why do you like it? What are your experiences with what you like to use?
Its interesting to see what everyone likes to use because everyone has different experiences.

I also use P-Line CXX for everything except for frog fishing. CXX is a little stiff but is manageable with KVD Line and Lure Conditioner.

How is copolymer fishing line btw If I am correct isnt it fluorocarbon coated around monofilament?
I have never tried it before but I have talked to people who do use it.
Does it stretch similar to mono?

I personally use fluorocarbon mostly for leaders with braid but I also do use it for main line I find that BPS XPS Fluorocarbon is pretty for the price you pay.

I use P-Line CX for my primary line. I have a couple of setups I use braid on. I like Power Pro but I am trying Fireline Braid on one reel. I also have a few spools of P-Line Spectrex IV that I want to try out.

P-Line CXX is a mono line, but from my experience it does not have as much stretch as other mono lines. P-Line CX Premium is a copolymer, but I have found it to be brittle and break easily for fishing around zebra mussels.

I was under the impression that CXX was a copolymer. I looked at their website and it didn't say one way or the other.

Mono- Trilene XT or Ande
Fluoro- Trilene 100% for leaders and spools
Braid- PowerPro

Mono- Use it for most plastics, cranks and spinners unless fishing really clear water or chunk rock
Fluoro- Jigs, leader for C-rigs. Clear water or chunk rock. I'm starting to like this fluoro stuff more and will probably switch from mono once the mono's used up.
Braid- Topwater and C-rig main line. Stained water and heavy wood cover

Jrob, I also thought CXX was a copolymer, but last time I purchased some of the 600 yard spools, the upc that was on the packaging from the factory said "12 lb CXX Mono".

I also forgot to mention that I use P-Line CX Premium on my dropshot rod becasue the line is so manageable. CXX only gets used on casting gear.

Monofilament - topwaters, crankbaits. Sufix Elite or Siege.

Fluorocarbon - spinnerbaits, worms, senkos, jigs, dropshot, shaky head, wacky worm. Seaguar InvsiX or AbrasX. Also want to try some Sunline Super FC.

Braid - jigs, frogs, flipping, pitching, dropshot. Sufix Performance Braid or Spiderwire Ultracast. Waiting for the new Sufix 832 Braid to some out to try some of that.

CXX is a copolymer. Guessing the UPC was incorrect.

Straight from Tackle Warehouse

P Line started out on the West Coast and was quickly adopted as the best co-polymer line on the market by anglers of every type out there. Bass fishermen liked the natural green color for stained water or the crystal clear for the clear water lakes and the abrasion resistance when fishing around structure is incredible. Saltwater anglers soon learned about the great knot strength and low stretch of P Line and fell in love with the immense strength of all the line classes. Trout anglers noted the strength per line diameter and realized they could step down in line diameters and still have incredibly strong line and when a big trout got them around a stick or a rock they knew the line would hold and the fish would be landed. This is the co-polymer line that can do it all from dropshotting and finesse fishing to flipping heavy jigs in thick cover to dragging spider jigs on deep structure. Try a small spool to fill a couple of reels if you haven't tried it already or buy the economical 600 or 3000 yard spools if you already know how good P Line really is.

Jrob - You'll like the Spectrex. I've been fishing it quite a bit lately, and it's good stuff.

Im a cheapskate... so Berkley Big Game for everything except my finesse spinning rod... it gets 8lb Trilene 100% Flouro....

I have a reel that hangs out in the boat with BPS 50lb braid on it just for when the timber gets flooded or im throwin a frog around timber in the fall... lakes i fish have zero grass, so there is no point on havin braid on all the time...

Huh, I guess CXX is a copolymer...

I was under the impression that it was a mono line from reading the Bass Pro Website (it is listed as CXX Xtra Strong Monofilament). On the Cablea's website it is listed as a copolymer though.

What ever kind of line it is, I like it!

P-line CXX as a flouro replacement. I thought it said copolymer on the box. I know it is stiffer than mono, but more sensitive than mono and better cast ability than any flouro I have used.
Mono #12-17 & #30 - Sufix

I use all Monofilament. It's cheap and works for every application. I like Stren, Berkley Big Game, and Trilene XL. I like Trilene XL because it is very limp and works great for Spinning reels. I like Berkley Big Game because it's very, very tough and cheap. I like Stren because it's limper than Big Game, but stronger than XL so it's a happy medium.

I've never broken a Bass off on any of those lines.

That's an interesting point, BC. Maybe this would be best discussed in a separate thread, but I wonder how many of our active members actually have lost a Bass as a result of line breakage. I lost a good one a while back because of knot failure, but I cannot remember a line parting on me in many years, and I use a variety of lines... mono, copoly, flouro, braid.

With a properly set drag, a reasonable line test, good knots and re-ties when needed, you shouldn't ever lose a fish due to broken line. IMHO This isn't taking into account fishing cover or a fish wrapping you around something.

Mono- Trilene XL- Andes
Floro- Trilene 100%- Only for leaders with braid. I don't like straight floro. I've used a few brands and don't like the memory/ stiffness issues.
Braid- Power Pro/ Stealth/ suffix. I like all three and look to see which one is on sale. I really like braid and have started to use it on my spinning rigs. I still keep a few set ups with mono.
