fishing a c-rig at night
water temp at 3:30am was 87.5 degrees.. water was clear wind was blowing but good from the east at 25-30 gusting around 40+.. -yeah i know east wind- air temp was 78 it was "perfect".. i ran to a little known chunk of struture the wind was blowing straight into it..caught 1 bass on a lipless bait 4 more on a c-rig and 1 on a pnj all before day light. 2 were short. i took pictures of most of the fish just they did not turn out none to good.-kinda p.o. that the pictures of the big fish did not turn out well-he went 7.1 pounds - this is the only decent picture i have of any of the fish. please note that is the correct time as you can see why i have diffaculty getting decent pictures..
got to talking with a guy-local pro- about 5:30 ish.. i was on his spot-aww poor thing - i was ready to leave any way and ran to a quiet non wind blown point. where i caught 1 dink on a horny toad 1 even shorter on a pop-r. and 3 more on the c-rig.. i was using a 3/4 oz tungstung bullet no clicker just a cut glass bead, a ball bearing swivel, 36" leader lenth-12 pound envy green ande-. i was using before daylight a zoom 8" magII june bug worm on a 3/0 ewg gammy after daylight a watermelon seed 6" lizard with the same hook.. all of this was rigged on a 7 foot fenwick hmx heavy -ya think?- casting rod topped with a quatum mag gear reel loaded with 12 pound envy green ande mono.. both batteries were no there last legs fighting the consant wind.. i headed home about 10:30am zooker

a word to the wise, make up a half dozen C rig leaders and bead and hook prior to venturing out at night where its harder to see at night, I put mine in a container or baggie when I know I 'll be getting hung up and need to retie fast.

It kind of surprises me that you were using a 36" leader. I like shorter leaders at night, to put the sounds closer to the bait. Perhaps I have to try something different.

Gotta love night fishin', zooker, never tried a lipless crank at night, I don't knwo why, they ought to hear them for miles and miles. I generally stick with t and c-rig, jigs, spinnerbaits and topwaters, in that order, pretty much

It must be, cause driving for the first time, in a deserted area, was kind of scary to me. Did you have a boat on the back?

I have found that in some lakes as big as 200 acres, but in the lake closest to my house, the bait fish aren't even visible from the shore, and there are sure no bass close up, just some small to medium cats.

Sorry Zook, but I must agree with FlyRod, thats not a freshly caught fish.
The picture that you have posted is no more than 3 1/2 lbs. Thats unless you didn't show the 7.1 lber that you say that you caught.

I'll second that Zook, I was running a big ole Abu ambassaduer on my catting rig all summer long and I think I only lashed maybe once, but not even sure of that. Granted, I was tossing about a 1.5 oz weight with it... LOL.
