Champlain 9-12
I went out to Champlain for my first time yesterday. I stayed in the north end after launching from Chazy River up to the bridges. I was surprised because the lake seemed to fish more like a small lake than a big one to me, but I was probably doing it wrong since I went out there thinking of fishing big open water like Erie or Saint Clair and I probably should have been fishing the inside break in the weeds. It was a little chilly in the morning and then warmed up as the day went on with water 69-70 degrees. I stayed out fairly deep spending most of my time 12-15' with a drop shot or tube. When I found a nice stretch of rocks I would catch one fish, but that was all. I tried cranking and a spinnerbait in other depths and only caught pike. I fished all day and I think I landed 6 or 7 smallies and had 4 pop off which I normally don't have a problem with. In any case the fish I did catch were all good ones with the smallest one about 2 pounds. Not too bad I guess for my first time out there. Here's a few pics I took while trying out the Lily-Pod camera mount for the first time:
I made a video of running a couple miles too, but all you can see is the boat and the sky. I need to adjust the camera angle I guess. Here's the video, but it is pretty boring: (I'll put the link up tomorrow when it is done uploading) |

Nice haul Bender. I would love to latch on to one of those smallies one day.
