Looks like a great deal, but when I looked at the form you download, the terms you sign and agree to on it look quite different than the advertised terms.

Thats a pretty good deal if you ask me. How many used rods could you sell at 70% of it's original value?

If I haven't told you enough yet Bryce, I really do hate you.

Here's the problem:

G. Loomis MBR844C IMX (that I really don't need, as I have 3 heavy powered rods) will get me $182 on trade in (more than I paid for it BTW). That makes a DX702SF a mere $138. I can even find a used one for under $200. At nearly 58% off retail, I don't see how I could NOT take advantage of this...

Interesting, so I could get 100% value out of a 4 yr old Powell toward a Champion Extreme....that is very tempting.

Wait a minute, If i were to buy a powell max rod, for $130 I can then turn around and trade it in for a Champion Extreme.... something sounds fishy? Anybody tried this program yet?

LOL - Kistler rods are not included. Even the people at Dobyn's know that those that own Kistler would never consider trading on a mere Dobyn's and it could, in no way, be considered an "upgrade".

Ahhh, I got it now... it was a little early when I first read it, and it sounded a little too good to be true... Still a good deal, but not as good as I origianlly thought!

Lol Ryan, now THAT I would've jumped on right away!

And for those that have never dealt with The Hook Up before, they are great. Very friendly and helpful on the phone. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

Well, regardless of the trade in.... I ended up buying a Dobyn's Champion Extreme DX703C... 7'MH casting rod, got it new a local dealer for $255 out the door. I figured why not, right? Now tomorrow, well see how it fishes!

I have the exact same rod and love it. It's a perfect mutli-tasker and paired with a small light reel (like my Daiwa Sol) it feels perfect in hand. Not to mention the casting ability of the Sol allows me to fish lures I'd usually move to a Med power rod for.

I'm really leaning towards a DX702SF for my Fuego 1500. I know you had one of these but it wasn't heavy enough to fish the weights you guys do out on the lake. Other than that, how'd you like it?

I'm kind of going back and forth between that and the DX742SF. Both rated as ML rods, but the 742 is about half a power heavier (or the 702 is half a power lighter).

The DX702SF was a nice rod, I really liked it, but for the heavier weights of 3/8 + it was way to whippy of a rod. Trying to cast that 3/8 & 1/2 oz. dropshot was a like throwing a fiberglass ultralight for me. It was a really good rod if you are only going to go up to a 1/4 oz. on it, but on Erie 1/4 oz. weight just won't cut it. It had incredible feel though (even more so than my Kistlers, sorry Bruce ) and that is why I got it, becasue of the great sensitivity that the 702SF had. I would like to try a 703SF though, as I feel like it will handle the heavy weights better.

NO problem!

In all seriousnes, if I were buying rods today - Dobyn's would one of my top 2 choices (vs St. Croix). While I really like the Kistler's I have, they are all pre-2010. As I've said before, today's Kistler rods are but a shadow of thier former older versions that were made in the USA. The China produced rods just do not measure up - and I'm no longer recommending the newer rods, based upon my experiences, because the Kistler's I use are not the Kistler rods you can get today. I guess I should even stop mentioning them in jest, which was my intent in the previous post, without a disclaimer about the currently available Kistler's (other than the Z-bone which I have no experience with, that's also a disclaimer).

I rarely stray from my trusty 3/16oz weight. If I do, it's usually upping to a 1/4oz to account for the wind. I would like the added length of the DX742SF though, even if it is about half a power heavier.

Bruce, I've said if before, Dobyns and St Croix make two of the best constructed and most consistent rods on the market. I can't compare performance, as I just can't get over the tip-heavy-ness of the Croix enough to buy one, but I don't think either are lacking. And you already know my opinion of Trey Kistler and the way he does business, regardless of the performance of the rods.
