Default Cold and muddy....

but still found fish. Water temps on the river dropped 12-15 degrees since last week. The storm Sandy did a number on the river. We found trees in places they haven't been and others missing.
Our first clue to finding the stripers was to find the birds. The gulls and terns had found the baitfish in the creek and we found a couple convicts working them over pretty good. This one was hungry because it ate the Hardcore!!!

The Major found a snakehead on a channel edge next to some brown grass and it hit a custom Punisher.

Finally hit the bass on the custom painted Hardcore and found it in shallow water in front of a marsh drainage area.

Bites were limited but all quality fish. A good day on the water.

Thumbs up

Smitty, I'm impressed. Those are the toughest conditions us fisherman can face. Very well done, and I hope you killed the snakehead.

Air temps in the low 50's. Was overcast and chilly then sun came out. Got cold again as the sun set.

Way to go. Catching fish under those conditions is imperssive. I'm currious. Is the Snakehead a bony fillet?

It has some bones but they can be removed. You end up with two long thick back pieces and a thin piece from the rib cage to the tail. I use the ribs to make stock for chowder and remove the bones and add the fish to the chowder.

Come out and fish for them or grow one in a fish tank......that's all I can suggest. I didn't catch as many as I have in the past but I didn't fish much at all this year. And with the dry conditions the salt water pushed them way back into the creeks this summer and fall so we really didn't see many. I know Capt Mike caught a bunch but he hangs out way back in those areas. From what I've heard from the biologist here in VA the population on the river has leveled off. But they have now spread to the Rappahannock river which is south of the Potomac. Next thing they'll be in the James and Chick. rivers so they'll be all over VA in a few years.
