Default Old River pics

Just got these today so I thought I'd post them. Haven't been out in a couple weeks so I'm getting the itch. I heard they had a tough time catching them this past weekend. Some of the best guys on the river only weighed two fish for the weekend. That is tough!

3d, don't you hate when the time passes and you realize that you haven't wet a line in several weeks? Since time is so hard to find, I "make time" by missing sleep and fishing during odd times. Good thing that I don't live in a warm climate. At least I have the winter to catch up on sleep and stuff.

It's been tough to get out. Been away every weekend and working 10-12hrs per day and no money to fish. I'd love to take a day and wade for some smallies. Might do that this weekend. Got a little something planned on Labor day on the Pinkystank river at Starrett Point with Capt Mike. Got to work that Sat, got to make a few $$$, but gonna run down there Sun morning and see if we can get on a few.

lol, trying BOTH ways. got quite a few hits on a pop-r. but forgot we had company coming and had to leave juuust as they were really hitting. gonna try to rig up some jigs that ol zooker sent me. got a couple of skirts and some zoom crawdads. i'll TRY to post pics. i ain't good at that yet ya know, lmao. gonna see if they hit on top and bottom. the grass is REALLY thick now. and the lily pads are so thick, you can walk a worm for bout 100 feet and never find a hole. tough to get anything in there, hope these jig heads work.

You need 20lb+ line, a Hvy/FA 7'+ rod that can handle 1oz jigs or Flippin Wts, some Baby Paca's or Craw Papi's, and a good 2/0 hook (if you T-rig). Rig them up, punch the grass, bounce the craw around and set the hook when they swim off with it. Of course you are flipping right next to the boat so you can get them in quickly.
The set of pics I posted from the river has one or two that I pulled from the grass this way. Caught a lot of fish this summer using both rigs described above.

Wally world ain't gonna help you with the weights or jigs. Probably not the rod either. Line and plastics might be there.

Best of luck with the wife!
