Default Coyote tracks

I'm curious. Is there anyway to tell the difference between regular dog tracks and coyote tracks? The reason I'm asking is they have a ton of coyotes on fort bragg and I only live a couple miles from the base. Never seen one come around here, but I think I saw one a week or so ago. He wouldn't give me a chance to get a good look at him, but I do think that's what he was. Today I found some tracks in my garden just a few feet from my house. I'm wondering if I might be getting ready to have a problem with them getting in my trash or worse, there are kids around here from time to time. I'd appreciate any info from some of you guys that might of had more experiance with them.
