A club buddy I fish with often got a pair for his 20'er 2 years ago and loves them. Besides all the obvious reasons to have them, I have noticed that they really changed the way we fish the wind. I will say though that there are lots of times we would love to stop for a moment to fish something we graph and its 15-20' deep, worthless in that situation. I have heard that they get in the way of co's casting...hasn't been the case for me.

Pro's-
Can stop the boat to fish something you would otherwise drift off of (like when you catch a fish and need to cull, measure, weigh, or put in livewell) Invaluable when sight fishing because you can sit right on a fish for a very long time without moving or spooking the fish. Con's- Interferes with the co-anglers ability to side arm. Noisy on the initial deployment. (although they did release new one this year that's supposed to be quieter) Doesn't grab well on a rocky bottom Only goes to 8' (although 8' is pretty impressive) IMO power poles are a great addition to a bass boat but they will be a PIA for anyone fishing out of the back... And might I suggest if you do decide to get one... get 2 because 2 gives you a true hold and eliminates the boat swivel in the wind.

I am working really hard on my wife to let me get either 2 Power Poles or two Minn Kota Talons. I haven't really decided which I would rather have yet because they both have advantages over the other. For instance the Talon has a quick release that allows you to remove it in seconds if needed. On the other hand the Power Poles can be lowered part way to allow clearance in places that don't have a lot of over head room like a garage door or something like that, plus you can lower them part way to get them out of your co-anglers way while not actually using them to hold the boat. But then again the Talon is electric so it would be quieter than the Power Pole which is hydrolic. But on the other hand you can get the Power Pole in a 10' unit if you go with the new Blade model that just came out. LOL as you can see I can't decide which way I would like to go because there are so many advantages to either one. But one thing is for certain, there are several uses that would make them very valuable to have.

You have to purchase the Pro or the Signature Series models. Mail in rebate been out since August 1st while supplies last, was the only one I found.
Free Remote Offer This a really great item if you are a shallow water angler, as keith stated they are useless in more the 6' to 8' of water depending on which model you go with. They did introduce a new 10' power pole at ICast this year. Check out the video and how the new remote works. Power Pole Video The 6's aren't in the way nearly as much as the 8's are. If your co-angler stands alot instead of sitting then he/she will be fine. Either way it sucks to be a co-angler......lol.

Do you still have it?
I have Two 8' Pro Series on my boat. I would like to buy it to give to UF for the boat we just donated to them.

I think i would like the talon's better just because there is no hydraulic fluid to mess with or pumps.

Quick thought: many guys are having a hard time fitting them into their garage or the door into their shop because of clearance issues. I heard they are making mounts that now will drop them down somehow, but you might want to think of this depending where you store your boat. (power poles are higher than your motor)
Only other thought is you really need to assess how much you fish shallow and how much you would use it/them. Don't just buy them because they are cool or the newest thing, but you seem set on it, so you probably have thought about this. Might just want to take a step back and assess the situation

My older brother fishes red fish a lot, he just buys long shovel, rack handles (as long as it is thick so not to break), drills a hole near the top of the pole and inserts a rope, then sticks them in the mud, and ties them off to his boat cleats. So he can either fish on top of them, or drifts out away, and ties it off as needed. We do that all the time when I fish with him for reds or trout. My wife and I used some when I took her down back in Oct of this year to Sandpiper Inn, Chauvin LA, and they worked great!!!! (we also waxed them so the mud cleans off easyer)

Very cool! When I finally get a bass boat, I would definitely look into those. I've thought of doing something similar, but low budget on my yak, using discarded conduit from jobsites

Hello all. New to the forum. Been lurking in the shadows for awhile. I have been looking into these dig-in anchors. They look pretty slick. I am a huge fan of not having to drill holes in my boat. Id say anyone who is seriously considering a powerpole or blade check these out too.

Mallen pvc pipe works much better lighter and tends not to collect mud so bad,ive used in in 15 ft fiberglass and even for light poling, for that place a T on the end so wont dig in,for siting still take open end and insert.

They don't work as well down here with super soft sandy bottom. They need to dig down at least 2-3 feet into the soft sand before it holds properly. Otherwise in a decent breeze it just slides along the bottom stirring up sediment. It does slow down the drift but not stop it.
