Default ZOOM Lizards

Got this post under said forum category due to I have never used lizards before. How do they work? I just picked up a pack of ZOOM Black w/ Ruby Fleck today. I know you T or C-Rig them, but just would like some input on them..

Skittering them over or through cover works well for me... sometimes letting them sink a bit in the holes and such. Any one else?

You can fish 'em like senkos too. Let 'em got to the bottom and keep 'em there a while with a twitch now and then. Must say I never had much luck, but I know people who do.

like any plastic, throw it out there, let it sit, twitch it, move it, twitch. if
a fish is in the mood, you are in luck. and that can be said with most any
lure out there.

Well there isn't a bad way to fish them. My personal preference is weightless, t-rigged. I will throw a lizard anytime anywhere there are bass. My preferred method is cast, let it sink for about 10 seconds(or longer as needed), then a couple of twitches, and then pause, then repeat the twitches and pauses. Working them litterally from the shore(actually casting onto the shore, and dragging it into the water, if in a boat), back to the boat will produce fish. The legs and tails move more water, so there are even of more added benefit in stained/muddy/dirty water. If c-rigging them I prefer a floating lizard. Just dragging them is what I prefer with this method.

I liike that you mentioned toosing the bait onto shore and dragging it back into the water lizzards. I use that ploy often and the results can be amazing. Those shallow water bass are looking for something to enter the water and that technique is just what the bass doctor ordered. Plus they are not frightened by the hard splat above their heads. I've used this approach with jigs, weedless spoons, and other plastics. Works great. Caught a few mean and nasty bullfrogs too!!!! LEAPIN LIZZARDS, WHAT WAS THAT?????

I just bought some of the Zoom Super Salt Plus 6" black w/blue tail yesterday.

This post was very informative as now I have an idea what to do with them once I get to the watering hole!

Something else I'd like to mention is using them as a trailer on a maribue jig. When the hot summer weather drives bass deeper, using a black maribue jig of about 1/4 oz. in combo with a 6" lizard as a trailer has been a dynamite lure for me. I cast it out in deeper water where weeds are nearby, and slowly reel it back after it settles to the bottom, occationally giving it a twitch.

I've had awesome luck letting them sink till they hit the bottom, then swim them back to the boat. Almost won a tourney a while back doing this. People thought I did nothing but crankbait all day. Nope, just threw the lizard all day.

I guess I rig them a little diffrent, I use a black(color does not matter) 1/4 oz. bullet weight, a glass bead, and a tru-turn T-rigged of course. I find the clacking of the bead kinda draws 'em-course there is no gin-clear water here. I use them in watermellon-pepper and motoroil chartruse or black chartruse tail. I do find it hard to feel the bite sometimes.

I like using lizards a lot. I will have to try them wacky rigged one time. I usually T-rig them, but I have caught a lot of fish while reeling them in. Just reel slowly and some will come after them.

I use them like frogs, Over cover or through thick cover with no or little weight. I also use them as trailors on some of my jigs.

Lizards are my #1 confidence bait.

I throw them on top of suspended weed beds, t-rigged where there are drops.

I am fairly impatient with the retrieve, though. Maybe I am missing fish by not taking it really slow and bumping it on the bottom. I'll have to try this next weekend

I use 4" green pumpkin and 6" watermelon seed

While watching Hank Parkers Outdoor Magazine last night, he said throughout the years he has found, and seen living proof, that a C-Rigged lizard will always beat out a C-Rigged worm. Has this been true to you guys?

I primarily use lizards during bass spawn season. Toss it out past the bed on a carolina rig. Slowly work it up to the bed and stop. let it hover and slowly float down to the bed. Watch the bass try to move it and set the hook.

When the water gets real hot out here in AZ (water temps are about 90 degrees right now), I'll C-Rig it and fish it deep. I like to drag it a lot. if my wife goes fishing with me, many times I will just hook her up a C-Rigged lizard and have her hang it the back of the boat while I fish from the front. My trolling motor will do all the work

I like to fish them in the spring on a texas rig for bedding fish and on a carolina rig for pre-spawn. In post-spawn I fish soft jerkbaits, topwaters and finesse.

Thumbs up

If anyone here hasn't used lizards your missing out. Although I just recently started fishing them, I've caught more and bigger fish in the same locations, and in the same way, I fish a worm. Toss it near stucture (if possible, on shore) and let it sink to the bottom. I like to work it back with a 3 twitches, pause for 5 seconds, repeat method. If color matters, I use ZOOM's Pumkin Seed Chartruese and ZOOM's Watermelon Candy 6" and Mag Lizards.

You say that u use the watermelon candy. You have found the magic color that zoom makes. I have never and used a color that FITS ANY water color better than watermelon candy. Not saying that other colors dont work but I have found it to be a GREAT color.
