I'm not familiar with Tharp, but from the video I watched, he seems like a pretty good guy. Has anyone heard which presentations and baits seem to be the go to techniques?

Lots of the guys have been reported with only having 4-5 rods on the deck, so they must be fairly dialed in. What I heard was just about what you would think, lipless traps, crankbaits, jerkbaits and jigs.

If the water clears even a little or he finds just slightly better water, I would think that this would play strong to KVD and his strengths.

Randall Tharp used to fish with BASS but has been fishing FLW the past several years. He's the current Forrest Wood Cup champion. He's very well liked by the other fishermen and his nickname is the Honey Badger, due to his tenacity. He's back with BASS, fishing the Elite Series this year. If he wins the Classic he will be the first to ever be the FWC and Classic champion in the same year and one of only a small handful of guys to win both championships.

Like T said, most guys are throwing traps, jigs, jerkbaits and crankbaits.

Big fan of how Tharp handled himself today when he had mechanical issues. Hope he finishes up strong on Day 2 now that he's back on the water.

Randy Hollew is just slaying the fish today with reports of already catching 30+ fish and a 25 lbs. sack by midday.

Spring Creek Bridge. cranking the riprap and just slaying them by switching up the colors.

This is why I hate BassTrakk (from Saturday)...

Really, Mueller? 30 pounds? Kriet says yes
3:42 PM CST, FEB 22, 2014 | BY GREG HUFF
Paul Mueller just told Jeff Kriet in the “Take Out” live webcast that he caught a 30-pound limit today. Kriet examined them on camera and said, “I think you really have what you say you have!” Based on Boca Grip measurements, Mueller said, he’s got 33 pounds. Bass wrangler Max Leatherwood estimated it at 27.4. Kriet estimated it at just over 29 pounds.

BassTrakk had Mueller with only 3 bass for 4 pounds …

BassTrakk is just a novelty to me.. to many variables involved to make it reliable.

Day 1 for Mueller (only 3 fish) is gonna haunt him for the rest of his life if he doesn't win it.

I don't think it's that easy. If he had caught, say, 19-10 instead of 9-10 on day 1, I think he would have fished differently on day 2 knowing he was in the hunt rather than having to go for broke just to make the top 25. And then who knows what would have happened for him on day 2. That's the way I see it anyway.

I couldn't agree more! It would be hard to find a greater representative of the sport of bassfishing!

I'm not ashamed to say it. I had tears in my eyes when Randy hoisted the trophy. Such a great guy. We couldn't ask for a better Champion. So happy for him and his family!

What an awesome classic and a great champion. I was a little disappointed to see some of my fantasy fishing and some of my favorite anglers come up short. Super happy for Randy Howell, E2, and Ott Defoe for a great show. As a side note, Gman was one of the more entertaining anglers the first two days. I really wanted to see him do well.

I am happy for him. I have heard him speak a couple of times. He really has a great testimony.

My Text to JRob last night....Man, this dude is gonna make me cry.

Congrats to Howell though. He's been on the trail a long time and an awesome ambassador to tote the gold this year. I had a hard time putting faith in his #25 BASSTrakkSuxx projection though. It's the same let down in the system every year.

And while I like Klein, I almost vomited a little bit on his commercial speech. How are you gonna pitch Repel when the bugs aren't out yet?

I was the exact same way. I wasn't really pulling for Howell in the beginning but after I saw him catch his fish online and especially after he weighed in, I was sure hoping he would hold on and win. It couldn't have happened to a better, more deserving guy. He will make a great champion for our sport.
