I went fishing this morning. The topwater bite had quit and I started throwing a 5" pumpkin chartreuse lizard. I caught three crappie on it and missed a few more. I never have had them hit a lizard. I have had them pull the firetail off a worm before. Looking forward to having them for dinner tomorrow night.

I never heard of that either. How long are the lizards. Bama fishes lizards all the time. I'm wondering if he too has caught any crappie. I have some small 4 inch lizards. Maybe I should try them on the crappie.

I have caught crappie on small crankbaits but these fish were aggressive and did not just pull the tails.

We have caught them on occasions with up to 6". Usually if we catch 1, we would neck down to the 4" lizard or Zoom C-tail worm and a straight 1/0 hook and 1/16 oz bullet. I have never been one to be walking out of the door and and saying I am going crappie fishing, but I will change my tune if I get in them with the plastics. I caught my biggest white perch at 3.25 on a Zoom Curly tail that I cut down to 3" when I got in them one a few years ago.

I've caught crappie on most bass baits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, 1/2 jigs, traps, and I got into them really good once with a zell pop too.

It was a first for me. I have caught them on a variety of baits and had them bug me when worm fishing but this was crazy.

I've caught them on many different baits when bass fishing. Caught nice one on a baby brush hog in Nov a while back. Catch them on traps all the time. Had a partner catch them on a footloose last summer.
Don't think I've caught one on a lizard but not surprised. |

Nice, AU...way to go. Hope you enjoyed the meal!
I caught a nice 1lb 8oz crappie two years ago while fishing from our dock and using a mag-size Pop-R. It came up and just smoked it and fought like there was no tomorrow. I thought it was a bass for sure. Boy was I surprised when I got it close enough to the dock to see it was a crappie! |

I may go back in a couple of weeks and take some roadrunners.
