Tire buying vent
I need to replace 4 tires on my Saturn Vue. While looking thorugh adds, I stubmled across a sale for buy 2 and get 2 free. I was happy to know that I would be saving a couple of hundred bucks.
I called the place to make sure that they had the tires in stock. They listed the initial price at $105 per tire. I had already resigned myself to the fact that there would be the standard mounting, balancing, and disposal fees. The lady quoted me at $585?!?!? When I said that I thought 2 of them were free, she explained that in order to qualify for that, I had to buy an alignment and their extended waranty. Just for the hell of it, I asked what the cost would be if I bought 4 and did not want the 2 "free" ones. The total was $495. So for only $90 I can get 2 "free" tires! In the words of Keyshawn Johnson...Come on Man!

Actually you get an alignment and warrenty for $90. Don't you love how they use "free" to sell you stuff?
Got to go. It's 70 degrees out and I'm wasting it sitting here on the computer!!!! |

I love how your car is ALWAYS out of alignment and they have just enough time to do it for you. They tried that on my last time i bought tires. I explained to them that I had just aligned it myself, and they lectured me about how much better their lazer alignment tool was than anything in the world. Little did they know that the alignment had been done two days earlier by lazer when a lift was installed in preperation for their tires.

It's a shame that simply going in to a store and buying a quality product at a reasonable price is a thing of the past. Now days it seems like stores think they need to stoop to scams like this to move product.

I know, it sucks and it really doesn't matter how they "package" the deal. The overall price seems to be about the same. I went in saying I wanted the $80.00 tire (per the ad) and they said that for my car the tire in that line was about $130.00 per tire. The ad gets you into the door and the shock of the price for "your" car takes you to the floor (and the cleaners).

Brand requested has been any that are round and hold air. So far most of them have been falken. I need 215/70/16
Don't know if I ever mentioned it, but following a stint at UVA, I was a student at Bridgewater for a year.

I just put four tires on my Jeep - it was a buy 3 and the 4th is free. It's all crap, after tax, balance, valve stems, disposal fee, oh yeah and the highly advised alignment with new tires I was over $600 (advertised tire was $99.00 each). The 4th FREE tire??? - certainly I HAD TO PAY FOR IT, the "free" is actually a rebate in the form of a debit card - THAT I'M STILL WAITING FOR.

Will do. I was in Harrisonburg and New Market last year for a few days. I am out in Quantico 3-4 times a year and try to make it over to the valley for a weekend at least every other trip.

Just bought tires for my truck (ouch!) so I feel your pain. Now looking for my car too since I've left winter tires on for 1 1/2 years. They did come in handy here in Mississippi for a day or two.

One of the reasons I buy slightly used for 20 bucks mounted.
Nothing is free, its a gimmick to get your business, like free credit score etc,it aint free once they have your credit card number its a monthly charge in small print. Kind of like the Nigerian emails you get, telling you of so much cash that needs to laundered. Ps I have some swam er land available in fla we can go look at it in july. |
