Default What is the advantage of a flasher?

Talking sonar here, why do some people still insist on having the depth flashers as opposed or in addition to a regular depth finder unit?

Real time like Buzz wing said. Since I'm an advid ice angler flashers have become my best friend, and I've really learned their strengths! With a flasher you can see breaks and pockets in dense vegetation unlike a sonar. And with a flasher you can determine substrate content and structure content better than with a sonar (i think) since it displays soft, medium and hard in different colors.
I want to convert my FL-18 onto my boat for deep water summer fishin, but the conversion kit is like 150$$. I need gortex and another rod before that. I'll just put it on my wish list! Good fishin

Yeah i am using a old lowrance Lfp-300 flasher in the canoe. I just think they don't make them today like they use to. I have always fealed the flasher when understood how to use it. That it is far more accurate.

mike
a flasher is a depthfinder. an exhibitionist is one who is nekkid in public..please note if you see an exhibitionist nekkid in public you are called a "voyeur"....

see ya lernt som thang new..

the flasher is great if you know how to use it...alot of people don't, i grew up using a super 60-the best sonar humming bird ever made-if you set them right they are just as good as a regular depthfinder.. i know 3 guys who insist i set there flashers every time i see them..
