Default Stir the pot.....

I was watching a show called Chili Paradise on Food Network and didn't recall if this has been discussed or not.......beans???? Do you put beans in your chili or not? Why or why not? What about cinnamon? Or is that only an Ohio thing? And what's up with that 5 way chili thing?? And finally how hot does your chili have to be? If you can't stand the heat......

I do put beans in my chili most of the time. I guess cuz that's how my parents made it. Sometimes I don't put in any or I put in some black beans vs the common kidney bean. I've tried cinnamon but not a big fan. We've got a place called Hard Times that serves 5 Way but I'm not a fan of runny noodles with my chili. I like heat and add black, red, cayanne, and a mix of chili's but don't go for hab or ghost pepper type heat. Mine's hot enough that I break a sweat without burning my mouth.

I prefer 5 alarm with kidney beans and a mixture of pork / beef. I use sweet roma's as my base and I boil the red kidney beans. The oldest trick I know of is to place a small ladder in the boiling red beans so the farts can escape.

I make my chili with a large variety of beans - black, kidney (red, white and pink), pinto, black eye and navy. I can't eat mine 5 alarm any more, stomach just can't handle it, but it needs some "kick". I've cut back to jalapeno peppers, and a medium chili mix. I use beef and pork that I dice myself - NO GROUND MEAT! I also use a prepared salsa for the tomato, onion and green pepper as it's easier than chopping my own. I sometimes throw in some corn too.

Nope, hate beans in chili. I usually make it a tad hotter than most people (sissy's) can handle. I do not use ground beef. I use either some strip steak or chicken breasts that have been marinated. I grill the meat then cut it up into chunks. Onions, celery, peppers, tomatoes and zucchini. Mix all together with some canned tomatoes with peppers. Blend of different spices added.

Beans. Meat. Some spicy tomatoes, tomato paste. Stick your spoon in it and if it stands up it's good.
