My first decent bass of 2011
Season still isn't open in MN yet, so I'm down in IA (where they don't have a bass season) fishing with my dad and uncle this weekend. I was out solo this morning for just under 2 hours, most of it in the rain. For the first hour-plus, I tossed a Pop-R, buzzbait and dropshot without a sign of any fish. It started to rain pretty hard, so I packed up all my stuff and was going to head back to town, but by the time I had it all in my vehicle, the rain had almost stopped. So, I decided to stick around and fish some more and try a new bait -- the "Zoomie" as shared by Mac (see this thread for Zoomie details).
I got it all rigged up on my dropshot rod and headed back to the dock for more casting. On my second cast with the Zoomie, I landed a tiny little 10.5" LM -- cool, a sign of life! A few minutes later I hooked into my first decent bass of the year -- 16.5" and an even 3.0 on my scale. I am now a Zoomie-addict (I had 4 other bites that I missed, not sure they were all bass though). Thanks, Mac!!! Here are two quick pics I took before the release: |

I went back out for a couple hours tonight and caught 5 more on the zoomie, but they were all dinks. 11" was the biggest. |

Thanks, Bama (and others). Leaving this Friday for an 8-day stay at the lake, so hope to have some pictures and stories to share when we get back. Fish or no fish, though, it will be GREAT to get away from work for that long!
