1978 Merc 1500 Won’t Turn Over
Good day all,
I got my boat out for the first time this season on Friday and she spitted and sputtered, but I thought it could have been some stale gas. She ran pretty good Friday, slowly picking up speed as I was coming up and down the river. Saturday morning, I got up from camp, and started up river for the day we she started acting up, and would die on me as if the motor was flooded, but would never stay running. Once I got it home and started looking I found a blown fuel line. Coming from what I would think would be the fuel pump, but not sure. I replaced the line. Tried to start and she will not turn over…. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be or what I could try? How would I know if it’s a fuel pump? Plugs? I have pictures of where I pulled the blown fuel line if you need them…. Thanks in advance, Brook |

no, it would try to start, but wouldn't never seem to fire.... I have put new plugs in, but still having trouble? Thanks for any support..
Would a clogged fuel filter, or air filter be the problem? Thanks, |

Also after you noticed the sputtering how was the motor running before she quit. Did it have a mis and was it actually shaking when idling. I need you to describe what the motor was doing after she started that sputtering and how was it running before it happened so I can be more specific.

Hello... thank you for getting me the info...
Well, I took her out on Sunday and she ran great for about 45 min to an hr. Was a slow start until the motor warmed up them crept up in speed and didn't do much sputtering. Then we where waiting for a friend to show up and when he did I fired it up... took off and she died! Wouldn't fire back up, would try to turn over but never fired. I'm going to get a spark plug ignition checker tomorrow! Thanks, Brook |
