Today starts a new chapter in my life.
Guys, this is one of those sappy stories you see on tv, where long lost family members get reunited. My father left my mother when I was just a few weeks old, and I grew up not knowing anything about him until my mid teens when my mother finally admited what I already suspected.
Over the years, I tried searching for him, and at one point my mother and stepdad hired a private detective to find him since we were talking about letting my stepdad adopt me and take his last name.....the private eye never found him, and the adoption went ahead. To make a long story short, after years of unsuccessful searching, two days ago I located a website that had a copy of the obituary from the county he lived and died in.....While this was sad news that he was gone before I got the chance to meet him, the document did list his surviving children and where they lived at the time of his death in 2002. For grins I plugged those names into Facebook, and I got a couple of promising hits, so I sent a few messages, and lo and behold I get up today to find a reply....and by the end of today I have shared pictures and spoke on the phone with one of my long lost half brothers, and he informed me that I have a total of 4 brothers and a sister anxiously waiting to meet me. I am sooooo stoked I can hardley contain myself.....I turn 54 years old in July, and this year I got my heart problem fixed, and I'm feeling better then I have in 15 years, and now that left side of the family tree thats been blank all those years can start to be filled in.....with my new family.....Thank you Lord...What an amazing day it will be when we all meet for the first time....I can't wait.

That is awesome Michael. I hate you never got to know your real dad, but you have some closure of the issue. I am glad you located the family that can help fill in the blanks.

Bubba, theres more blanks then you can shake a stick at, but it was amazing how many of those got filled in after a 45 min phone conversation with my new brother.....Every few minutes i'd think "Well, that explains this, and that explains that".....lol.

Thats a really great true life heart felt story Micheal. It's a shame you never met your dad but who knows. God knows whats best for us. Perhaps there was a good reason why that you just might neveer know. But your going to receive a true blessing when you meet your other siblings. The next few months will be a very exciting time for you. All that and an improved heart too. It's been a very good period in your life and I'm very glad to see it.

Im happy for you man. My Dad went through the same thing. My grandfather left when my Dad was about 5. He never saw him alive again, but I remember as a kid we had a family reunion at our house where Dad's half siblings all visited with their kids. It was a pretty awesome experience.

That's awesome, Michael, and I'm excited for you! In fact, I have goosebumps as I type this. We went through something similar about 10 years ago. We got a letter in the mail one day, completely out of the blue, from a "long lost" sister of my wife's that no one had a clue about. Turns out she is actually a full sister who was given up for adoption right after being born. We have had terrific experiences getting to know her and make memories with her over the last several years, and I hope you do the same with your "new" family!
