Crankbaits Red Front Treble
I have noticed alot of the crankbaits you see on the pros line , on tv and mags the front hook of a crank is red. Any real reason for this you think ?

it makes no difference what color the hook is. The Bass just don't care. The red hook is there to catch you into buying that lure.

yeah the red hook is just to hook the fishermen not the fish..... its supposed to be a blood trail but i have heard red is one of the first colors in the spectrum to disappear in water...... but if it gives you confidence then it is worth it

One's confidence is in the technique and the crankbait you're using. The only thing you should be concerned about the hook, is that it's razor sharp.

I agree. The red hook hooks more fisherman than fish.

I like red hooks because they flash more than black hooks.

They are not trying to sell any kind of crankbait made like that. I seen a strike king KVD was throwing , none of them in the package are like that , and Strike king doesnt sell hooks ( that I know of ).

in the dark or murky water the color red is the first color on the spectrum to disappear
so could be a reason but idk y they would put it on the front hook and not the back one or just both but red is the 1st color to disappear in the dark

I think it's just a gimic. BUT, if it gives you more confidence in the lure, then I can promise you that you will catch more fish using a red hook.

Pros typically put those on themselves. I dcant think of any crankbaits that come factory that way, atleast they dont sell them around here.. its all about the extra flash for me.. i use them exclusively in summer and not in winter..

If you believe that the fish will attack the color red then you want to put the red hook on the front of the bait. This will get the fish to eat the bait better going for the front hook. Red may be the first color to "disappear" in the color spectrum underwater but it's not "invisable". It just turns a greyer color as you go deeper. Don't think because the hook is red that it will totally disappear under water!

Changing out your old hooks with Red Hooks
I can say one thing; it will at least, help with fighting off the Cabin Fever, for a little while anyways. ~Mark Last edited by woody; 02-18-09 at 06:43 PM. |

I changed all my crankbaits to red hooks and stainless steel ring, mainly because I use them for both fresh and salt water. The hooks and rings that come on the crankbaits rust.

They replace the front one because of the flash (fish will strike the lure more towards the front = better hook up) and because of the gills on baitfish colored cranks. Having said that, i like baitfish colored cranks with an orange belly...wonder if an orange dipped hook would work???

I'm sure it's to give it a "bleeding bait" look, but I've never bought into red hooks.
