when i go fishin i carry a tracfone.. cause verizon service sucks, on several of the lakes i fish,more bars my big ol hairy but..

after pulling a "woody" in REALLY COLD water..completely submerging the tracfone. and it still works like new.can't say that for my digital camera.

i have a razor phone that aint worth two cents ya try to use it in the chunky humidity we see during the summer. if that went in,it would be junk..

you all know if i can't kill it, i'll find a way .anything that can with stand my abuse has to be pretty good..

First, it is good advice to carry a decent Tracfone with you with at least a few minutes on it in case of emergency. They are cheap.

Second, I found so far with my Verizon phone that I have service almost everywhere that my wifes mediocre Tracfone does except a few places where she has a signal and I do not (very rare).... but when my parents were down here, they were using the Razer phones with VZ as well, and their signal was consistently worse than mine (both my old LG Chocolate and my current Samsung Intensity). I actually found that signal reception is different depending on the model of the phone.

Heres a few I have used:

Good signal reception:
LG Chocolate - Verizon
Samsung Intensity - Verizon
anything from HTC - Verizon
Motorola V130 & 170 - Tracfone
Motorola C261 - Tracfone

Mediocre or poor reception:

Razer - any cell service
Motorola W175 - several services including Tracfone
Motorola C133, 135 & 139 - tracfone

Also out of all the cell phone companies, with my experience Verizon does have the best coverage. Sprint has the worst.

true enough screwball i have the v130 tracfone..i belive that cell tower coverage omitts any water way..since it does not have any one LIVING there.having coverage on a body of water i belive is due to coverage over lapping.not due to them wanting to cover an area with out habition..

you and both know, when you need to call out from the lake. it is normally because your up sh!t creek with out a paddle..

One or two in the middle of nowhere Arkansas and Iowa. Otherwise 99% of the way I had a signal with that V170 phone.

So far with this Samsung Intensity, I had weak signal at Lake Victor, and weak signal in a few remote areas of the Eglin Reservation (280,000 acres of restricted Air Force land here, a few spots with decent fishing), but otherwise Verizon has had most of the areas I travel pretty well covered.

We also used to have alltel, and are now on verizon. When we renewed our contract with verizon, I also upgraded from my blackberry (very low end blackberry) to a motorola phone. I doubt my better reception with my new phone has anything to do with alltel over verizon though. after reading some reviews on my phone before I got it, most people agreed it got better reception than many other phones.

I'm just glad I don't have an iphone and have to put up with at&t. Although the iphone is finally coming to verizion, I still don't see myself getting one any time soon.
