Canoe OR Rowboat ???

I am wanting a small rowboat or canoe. For many of missouri's small rivers & creaks & ponds. I know a canoe would be lighter. But a small 10 john boat made into a row boat would be more stable. If you were wanting a small paddled craft what would be your choice. yes i will purchase a bottom line fishing buddy.

moose, We have a 14' aluminum V-Hull boat. It's like from the 60's, not very stable while standing up, but It's light enough for one or two people to throw in the back of a truck and easily take it somehwere. I just use it in our pond.

I've done both for the kind of fishing you are talking about, and I'd lean towards the jon/rowboat. A canoe is a lot easier to maneuver, however stability wise, especially with only one person, it can be a bear. Ther is not al ot of room in a ccanoe for your gear either...

Well i just want somthing i can use on the Small mouth bass in the ozark streams. But i also see me myself using it in other aplications. Hey at 500 bucks i can get a tracker 10 ft john boat. Plus you don't have to registor paddle craft in Missouri.

Try BPS or Cabela's 'scratch-and-dent' racks. My buddy picked up a 14' Jonboat off this rack for only $175! Great duck hunting boat. We've had three people, a dog, over 50 decoys, and our gear in it no problem.

Moose, I have owned both a canoe and a john boat. While the canoe was fun to use, quiet, and easy to get about anywhere you want to go, I'll take my john boat over the canoe any day. I have a 12 foot wide john boat and it allows me to do so much more than my canoe did. You can take along your tackle box, a few rods, a lunch box, and so on in a john boat. That gets a bit crowded to say the least in a canoe. Esp if you have company. I want to tell you a story of what happened to me. I was fishing from my canoe one day on a beautiful warm sunny summer afternoon. Barely a ripple on the water. I was crossing the lake when a freak strong thunderstorm came out of nowhere. It went from a peaceful afternoon to a raging sea in just minutes. The wind was blowing so hard I was like a cork in the water. There was NO WAY I could control the canoe by myself in that storm. The two foot whitecaps were flooding my canoe as I spun in circles in the middle of the lake. I paddled as hard as I could untill I was able to bail out about 20 feet from shore and swim to safety draggin my canoe with me. I really thought I might die that day. The canoe was full of water and I had no control at all. Now if that had been a rowboat with two paddles, I could have reached the safety of shore fairly quickly. Something for you to think about.

It depnds where you are talking about. I used to float some rivers in SE Mo. years ago. We caught some great Smallies. I think it was the Spring River and Buffalo anyway. A Jon would not navagate the rapids we used to go through there.We always used Canoes. There used to be some places in Thayer Mo(spelling) that offered canoe rental on the river. You might try that first. If it is a lazy river float take the Jon. Fish2win

i have a creek boat and a pirogue-pro nouced pee-row- both are insanely light the 10 foot creek boat weighs 58 pounds. my gator weighs less than 100 and is 14 feet long..

I was at BPS. Looks like i can get a canoe for about 350.00. Since since this won't be a primary boat. I want to save alittle cash. So this will work for me. Unless craigslist comes threw with somthing cheaper in the next couple of days.
