Default Hooking shiners - lip or dorsal?

Which way do you hook your shiners and why?

Someone said if you lip hook a free lined shiner it will dive into any bottom vegetation. But, if you hook it under the dorsal fin it will normally swim above the weeds. Is this correct?

Through the mouth, out one nostril- will cause them to swim down. That's my primary location. If not under dorsal or in front of tail. I use shiners once in a blue moon w/ my kids.

Tail hook and they swim up. Nose hook them and they dive.

I use about 8 dozen a day.

Thanks guys.

They reckon here in Florida use shiners to catch the lunkers. Never used them before so now I know the ' how to' - lunkers lookout !!

Cold and very windy here at Crooked lake yesterday and today. So driving around and looking at ponds/lakes.

Default Fishing with a shiner.

My wife gave me a shiner when I told her I was going fishing again!

When i use bluegill as bait just for fun on my uncles private pond you can hook them through the back and they swim pretty good. One actually swam all the way back to the dock that we cought him off of.

Hook the shiner thur the mouth and nostral they will live longer swim better and not get hung up as much. The ballon idea works well when in grass instead of bobber. Hope you trip is still going good.
