Default Finesse Baitcaster

If you have any interest in a finesse style baitcast reel, now may be the time to purchase one of these. The Shimano 50/51E is a good finesse reel and at this price would be a tough deal to beat.

Wow, that is an awesome price. I've been using a BPS Carbonlite this year and it has been pretty good but I have wanted to get a 51E. My friend is using one for finesse jigs and loves it.

WOW! Very good price, I haven't heard to much about them being "finesse" baitcasters, like a pixy being able to cast a weightless 4" finesse worm. But at that price...

I almost want one at that price to test head-to-head against my Sol...

I have casted both the 50E and the Sol, they both had upgraded spool bearings, and we casted the same bait on both, I can honestly say that there was very little if any difference in casting distance , everything else was just a matter of personal preference. Just for the record, we were casting a 1/16th oz jig between 35-40 yards on both of these reels.

I agree with that statement. Casting such a light weight, the rods the 2 reels were mounted on made more difference than anything else. The 50E is a fantastic finesse reel, every bit as effective as the Sol.

You guys are probably right. Besides, the Sol fits my hand like a glove and I need to save my money, lol. Lots of new reels coming out after ICAST!

With that being said, what rod would complimented the 50e? I was looking at the shimano crucials or gloomis. Never held a gloomis & don't really know their line up but i really like how the crucial felt. Suggestions?

Something with a light tip, and that will load up and be able to cast light bait well. Without having fished any of them, I think the loomis DSR820C looks like a great rod on paper to match with a finesse baitcaster.

If you want to go GLoomis the perfect rod you want for that reel is: CR722( 6') /MBR782C (6'6" ) IMX.

x2 on the MBR782C. Makes a great pair for the Sol, although I have my Sol on a 7' MH F. That's not a rod that lets the Sol shine though...

I'm not too big into the JDM rods, but Hi's Tacklebox carries the Megabass Orochi rods. From looking at the specs, I'd say the Orochi RattleViper Technical Game Rod would work good with a Sol/50E. Really anything in the 6-6"-7' and ML to M range should work. Length is your preference, and choose a ML or M depending on what you want to throw with the reel.

Best ultra casting reel imho is the super tuned Pixy (Pixilla) paired with a MBR782 GLX rod like this.
