Shimano Curado help..
I just bought a new Curado 201E7 for frog fishing. The reel came with the pink centrifugal breaks on it, but it came with a small bag of green breaks as well. If anyone knows the advantage of the green breaks i would really love to know. thanks.

I remember reading something along the lines of the green brakes being heavier.I think The light red brakes come stock and are lighter...Someone can probably detail it better than I since Im a Revo fan

Yes the green brakes are the heavy brakes, and the ones that come installed are the light red. Those are the "light" brakes. I've found the light red brakes are more than enough for me.
You will be more than happy with the Curado. Just don't think there's a better reel out there in that price range. |

What advantage or disadvantage do heavier breaks have over lighter ones?

The green brakes are a softer plastic. They generate more friction for more braking power. The light red brakes are a harder plastic so they have less friction and less braking. If you use the green brakes and find that 2 brakes on is still more braking than you need, then switch to 2 red ones and you should be fine. If you have multiple red brakes turned on and you still have overrun problems, switch to the green brakes. Keep in mind that it's best to maintain a balanced spool. If you only used one green brake on, the spool would not be in balance, it would be better to use two red instead of one green.

Green brakes weight more, in theory for big/heavy baits you should change the stock brakes for the green ones, however, the bst braking system is the one in your hand ---> an educated thumb.

Thanks for the info. I am a Curado fan. I have never tried to the green brakes. I have never had a problem with the red though.
