Spro McStick Jerkbaits
Anyone have any experience with this jerkbait? I have never paid over $7 for a crankbait.... but the guy at the local sporting goods store really has me convinced I need to get a few of these ($11.99) each ..... especially after showing me some of the pictures of the bass he has caught....
They are having a 20% off sale this weekend on all fishing supplies... so that would put them at under $10... I may have to pull the trigger on a couple of these.... |

The McStick is a good jerkbait. I have always been a Lucky Craft Pointer (talk about pricey) or a Smithwick Rogue fan for years, but when the McSticks came out I bought a few of them to add to my jerkbait arsenal. They have a great action and have caught me a lot of fish, and I don't really like throwing jerkbaits that much. One thing that puts my mind at ease with spending a lot of money on a jerkbait is that I rarely hang one up that I am not able to retrieve, even the DD Pointers generally don't get hung up in water that is too deep and you can usually feel when they are getting into brush so you can walk them through it with out hanging them too bad.

Very good jerkbait. I own several (jerkbait fan here) and they are top notch. Like Kory mentioned, a jerkbait isn't something you loose too often. I bet it's been 3 years since I lost one, and I throw them all spring and fall.

I bought a few when they came out. They are pretty good but a similar one that I like a little better is the XCaliber Xs4. Plus I don't think that there are a lit of people throwing them. The first McStick I had slowly sank so I didn't use them much. That was purchased as soon as they came out and I'm sure that they don't do that anymore. I'll agree with the guy though that when the water is cold that is one of the best baits and you should have some suspending jerkbaits.

I like Smithwick Rouges for a fairly inexpensive jerkbait. The LC Pointer is great too, but pricey.
Most of the things I've heard on the McStick is that they float and need to weighted down a bit. I do like the looks of them and the new McRip. I've never used the XCalibur jerks that Bender mentioned, but I own half a dozen other XCalibur lures and they're all great. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a few of these. BB

I also think spending $$ on jerkbaits is justifiable because they are a category of lure where realism, action (or suspense) truly matters. Unless you're really ripping it, a fish gets to take a good, long look at a jerkbait before he hits it. Not like a reaction-type bait where he has a split second to hit it or not before it gets away. |
