6-18-09 A few small bass
Went out to a local reservoir this morning for a while.
I started off with bluegill colored Bandit Footloose. After nothing, I decided to try something I don't have a lot of confidence in, a t-rigged weightless senko (OK, so it was a YUM Dinger, lol). I got a lot of small bites and finally caught one. After I threw him back and made my next cast, I saw a huge wake about 15ft down the shore from me. I reeled in as fast as I could and ran over to find nothing there, but the weeds did look like they had been disturbed. Anyways, after lots of small bites which I assumed to be bluegill I finally caught another one. In the first hour of being there, I had four 12-14" bass. After that, the sun came out and all bites stopped, even the little bluegill ones. So I switched lures for a while, going back to crank, a t-riggin worm, even a buzzbait. As I worked my way down the bank, I saw a HUGE fish, but couldn't ID it because it just looked like a big shadow in the water. Then right behind it was another, yet slightly smaller, giant fish. I cast my weightless dinger out in front of them and they ignored it. Then right before I was about to leave, I saw one of the big fish swimming parallel to the bank. cast after cast was ignored by this giant, who I still couldn't see enough to see what kind of fish it was. ugh, then I got a backlash. While I was picking it out, there was a huge splash right near shore about 30 feet away from he. I ran over to see and saw the tail of the giant and all the dust he stirred up. I'm sure it was either a carp or a catfish, but it still would've been fun to catch. BB

Cool! Sounds fun! I love little bass!
Next time you see a big wake, you gotta WALK over to it! When you run to it, the vibration goes from the land to the water.... spooking a fish!
