I don't know, Muddy. That bass on the left (are we talking about the same fish here?) looks to be a solid 24". That would make it somewhere between 7 and 8 pounds. The one on the right seems like around 5, like you say.

Thats Great!
I was bustin on him, see the emoticons, when I am serious it's all text Here is a standard, not 100% accurate formula you can use The basic formula for calculating the weight of a largemouth bass or smallmouth bass is: length x length x length divided by 1600 ( from a Doug Hannon article on another site) I dont bother with weight , if I ever catch a fish over 10 lbs it would be a miracle or a dream I wake up from. The only sure way is a good quality digital scale, used properly The formula is good if you hook something big and want to put it back and have some idea. If you do not have a tape measure with you, just cut some mono for the length measurement and the same for the girth. I really hope those fish were released or eaten in all those photos. |

LOL Waffle maybe you are just a giant. Im not a midget lol. My buddy's fish to me seemed about 4 pounds but I wasnt sure. But tonight we are going back out on the hunt for giants we are dropping black and blue Yamamoto Flappin' hogs with big 1 oz. tungsten flippin weights into some trees. Thats the way to do it

If you don't catch any like that, try using a lighter weight, like down to 3/8 oz. It'll drop lots slower, and the bass on the top, and middle portian of the tree will get a better look at it and slam it! But their's not denying that the 1oz weights will get you some reaction bites!!

And Bassboss I use the lighter weights occasionally but the trees im throwing are real shallow(about 4 or 5 feet) and have lots of muck and grass on top so the lighter weight might not get through but if the muck isnt there then I do use the lighter weights.

Hey Try this recipie, i learned it in New Orleans: right around the corner to the West of you
Get your Bass Filets, and soak them for about 15 mins in a bathof milk eggs few drops of worchester sauce few drops tobasco sauce in a flat pan or dish get some CORN FLOUR ( not meal) Wal Mart and many health food stores usually have it Mix in a good amount of Tony Chchere's Creole Seasoning in it and some garlic powder Take the filets one at a time out of the bath and drag em throguh the corn flour mix, then re-dip into egg bath , and repeat the flour drag DOUBLE BATTERED FILETS!! In a cast iron old fahioned black frying pan, 1/4 filled with Vegtable oil, heat til just below smoking and add filets, 2 mins on each side max take em out, sprinkle with a bit of cider vinegar and you are good to go! |
