Thumbs up Great Smallies

Just got back from fishing the Sturgeon Bay WI spring open derby and had a great week of smallie fishing. We pre fished for a week and landed 100+ 4lbs plus smallies along with 20 plus 5 lbers
We placed 35th in the derby of about 150 teams paid to 30 so just missed getting a cheque.
We came very close to a 4.5 pound average per day as it was a 6 fish derby. These are smallmouth bass and up here in Canada those are hogs!

The fishing was worth the trip our first time there have booked for next year already.
Will try to post some pics next week.
Derby is put on by SBOBT vert well run and fun tgo boot.

Sounds like a great trip Rick! You can end up with "bass thumb" after a week of that!

Sounds awesome, Rick! I can't even imagine what that would be like. I'm happy to catch a couple of 4 pound smallies during the entire summer here.

You can probably search the world over and NEVER find a better smallmouth waters. I mean no where!
100 fish, over 3lb average, WOW! Now thats catching!
Use goby plastics with jigs or what was your go too?
Stumble into any Wallys?

Glad you had fun. Didn't realize that was the tourney you were fishing.
Heard nothing but positives on it.

You'll NEVER get an agruement from me about your very good and numerous GREAT smallie water. I fished them before the GOBIE revolution and it was good then. I may have mentioned to coldbasser to drop you a PM before he went cause you know similar waters. I won't take you up on your offer, cause in the day it wasn't unheard of to venture over to the Mich. shores from the good side of the lake. You and your waters have my true respect and jealouscy. I do enjoy the smallies.
