Fishin this mornin (First Striper, pics included)
Arright well My dad decided to be brilliant and hook me up with one of his co-workers who is an avid fisherman. he makes me look like a total amateur, its nuts. Anyhow, I got up at 3 and headed out to fish before the sun came up at Manasquan.
Well, first cast and... These things are fun! the fight was brilliant. It was 24" long, a fun fish to catch. I gotta get these stripers more often. Well, you know what they say about first cast bad luck, as i got nothing for the rest of the day. but the sunrise was cool

Cranky, you have some good fillet’s there. When we go to Kill Devil Hills, we catch striper, put them on ice and transport them back to the cabin. If you’re interested, Polly has a unique recipe for preparation. After filleting a striper be sure and remove the “red strip” from the fillet. After this is done she will mix a salt/baking soda solution and let them soak in the solution over night. Dip those fillets in milk, roll them in meal, flour or what ever, pan fry them in peanut oil and Cranky let me tell you! The taste will make your clock stop. We do pond catfish the same way, even tried a bowfin in her solution, taste mighty good. Nice catch Cranky!

Not jokin Zook! We owned a cottage down there near the 6Mi marker on the Bay side of 158, sold it in 2005. I rented it out during the peak Vac season, had to make too many trips down during the hurricane season. Beautiful beach area. Some good bass fishing in kitty hawk bay, the vegetation and grass was plenteiful at that time and the bass were good size also. Carpy

Hey thanks guys. JB, never heard of Brookville lake, but it sounds so perfect... 3 species I love to catch and 1 specie I've never caught but love to eat.
Carp- I been wanting to catch me a nice striper meal. Unfortunately that striper fell 2 inches short of the NJ legal of 28 inches... had this been New York I woulda had me some good eatin. But I'll just have to nail me another next weekend... Recipe sounds pretty good, I've heard of dipping fish in milk before... Any idea why people do that? I think I'll try it with catfish as well, we have catfish stocked at the holmdel park pond

I have been told that milk helps take the "gameyness" out of the animal. I know of people doing this a lot with deer meat but I have not heard of it with fish. I didn't know fish could be "gamey".

Milk for catfish yes. Milk for rockfish AKA striper aka convict bass NO never.
Take one whole cleaned fish Take one whole lemon and slice Take one stick of salted butter and melt Take one whole vidalia onion and slice Coat fish with butter and place slices of lemon and onion on top. Bake covered in tin foil at 350 for for 15 minutes per pound. Remove tin foil and brown top ... maybe 10 minutes. Eat Capt Mike
