Welcome to the forum!
In a nutshell: Clear water-double willow Stained-Tandem: A Colorado(round) blade in front of a willow Muddy-big, single Colorado Retrieve-let the fish tell you. sometimes they want it burned just under the surface, sometimes slow rolled along the bottom. My favorite way/place to fish them is parallel to a wind blown bank. The wind blowing into a bank can really turn them on.

yup, what Reb said. my first spinnerbait bass came when I let the spinnerbait lfutter to the bottom, then pulled it up and let it flutter back down again. Kinda like hopping a jig or worm. I've had moreluck like this than a straight retrievve.

If you have a lily pads, try to bump them into the lily pad stalks. I have had several hits right when the lure hits the lily pad.

Clear water: Shad or white-translucent shad colors will also work well. Stained: Add some chartreuse. Muddy: Chartreuse or firetiger. Sunny: Silver blades Mostly sunny: Smaller gold blade in front of a bigger silver. Mostly cloudy: Reverse it-smaller silver blade in front of a bigger gold. Cloudy: Copper. That's my rule of thumb, but if it isn't producing I don't hesitate to try different color/blade combinations to see what they want.

A person could write a book on the basics of spinnerbaiting. I would suggest picking up both of KVD's spinnerbait tutorials, Basic and Adavanced tactics. Much of the same information is covered in both but there is enough different information to make both of them worth getting.

Dont be afraid to pitch a spinnerbait at targets like you would a jig then either let it flutter down and yo-yo it back or pitch just a little past the target and bring it back by the target. I've caught a lot of fish pitching a spinnerbait when a jig or plastic failed.

I live in South Louisiana and don't encounter clear water too often. I have found that black, yellow and black, Chartreuse and black work very well. Yes I do use the whites and chartreuse and white, too. I have learned that in off color waters the dark baits work.
Crawfish are ever present here, I'll use red and white and green, red, and white in the Summer. (no guys, we don't call them crayfish) If there is a chop on the water I'll throw a single Colorado or a Indiana blade (gold). If the water is still I use the tandem willow leafs. If I need a "drop" bait then I use a short arm and a single Colorado blade. Fishing heavy cover? Long arm spinnerbait. Quarter ounce to a half ounce is mostly what we use, however, if I go to Toledo Bend in the Winter, I'll slow roll some ounce or better on the bottom in deep water. The Mississippi River I use half ounce and better because of the current. Good Luck fishing. Buddy |

Generally, I like the 3/8 ounce blades because they seem to be the perfect all-round weight. The cast well, can be dropped to the bottom, or can be ripped by the top. To me, 3/8 is the way to go.
