Hopefully SHE'LL pull in the big one . In the rivers I fish, which are not tidal rivers, which there is a big difference. Pitching and flipping to the wood is the mostly used tactic. Depending on current, water clarity and water level. I'm guessing you are fishing the creeks, or are you actually fishing the main river? Main river I would go with mid range diving cranks, and a spinnerbait, and still pitch to the wood or trash piles. In the creeks you might also want to try the channels at this time of year. I am by no means an expert, but I have fished more rivers this year then ever. These are pretty much what the majority is doing. The fish can be few and far in between. But it's better than being at home Hope your niece has a blast, how old is she? May want to take live bait, just to catch some fish. If she is young, your time will, and should be taken up by helping her catch fish. If she's a quality angler, then go for broke. I did however do my best this year on a Buzzking Buzzbait, with dual props, in chartreuss/white. This was early in the morning though. Smaller baits, and drop shotting is another method being used regularly.

Cast your bait above the target and let the current move your plastics or what have ya. Assuming it's a tidal river. I fish the James which has mostly hard cover. I fish small worms (4" ringworms) and jigs. Also spinnerbaits and crankbaits will do good. If the river has grass then that would be what I fish. The Potomac River is full of grass and that's where you catch some good fish. Buzzbaits and Poppers in the morning and Senko's or finesse worms when the sun comes up good. Good luck and I hope y'all slay em!

A crankbait is a lure, that is hard, with usually 2 trebble hooks on it. It has a bill also that forces it down in the water as you retrieve it. The bill can be long, short, fat or slim, which makes the difference on how deep it dives down to. It is usually a bait that you get more reaction strikes out of.

Exclamation

I am pretty sure there is catfish all over the world...I remember growing up fishing cape cod for flounder and other species, and was so excited to go to fla. and surf fish in '84...I put my shrimp on and chucked a 3 ounce sinker (pyramid shaped) , got my first bite, thought..hmm...maybe shark, tuna, amber jack, but noooooooo ..it was a friggin catfish LOL
I also had a hawg on once on tanner creek off some rip rap, only to bring it up and the line started rolling over n over, it was a stupid shovel head cat..thought I had big bass jackpot fer sure that day...it bite a 1/4 ounce white spinner bait
