A good Idea
i was watching on different ways to peg weights and of course they showed the toothpick, the rubber skirt thread (now you can buy them just for that purpose), and a slip bobber thing... you can also buy the Peter T tru-tungsten thing.....
All of a sudden BOOM: why not use a Split shot weight to hold down the bigger weight, all you would have to do is downsize your weight a little or just lose a really small (and really cheap) split shot. The only con i can think of is that it might damage the line like the toothpick. (but still its cheap) I also thought you could use the little rubber bands that the dentist give to kids with braces. You could stick it into the weight or wrap it around the line (i think there cheap b/c people at school just shoot them around since they come in packs of like 2000).... Also they come in different colors. If you think of a con or can add on go ahead. Just thought it would be great and cheap for people that peg alot. (i dont)

using split shots is a good idea but i wouldnt like the extra weight and i dont think it would glide thought cover very well but there are plenty of instances that it would be a good idea if you did not care about the extra weight.
the braces rubber bands would probably work well but its been a long time since ive seen any so i dont really remember what they look like. |

the only issue I have had when using a split shot is that they are a lot more resistant to the rocks and weeds than the pegged bullet weight.

I would not recommend using a split shot to peg a sinker. There is only negatives with using a split shot. As for the dental rubber bands, I'm not sure they would work, and even if they did, they would be a hassle to apply and probably be much more in cost (medical supplies aren't cheap) compared to rubber sinker stops.
Bass Pro Shop's Sinker Stops work great and are only $1.69 for 15 stops. Hardly a bank breaker. Peter T's pegs work great too, and don't cost that much either. If you're having problems with your sinker stop sliding up and down when using heavy weight, generally it's because you're using very light line (ie. don't fish a 1oz flipping bait on 8lb line). And allowing a sinker stop to slide up and down the line is a good thing when setting the hook and fighting a fish. A little give doesn't hurt. |

I know you mentioned it, but what's wrong with the toothepick method?

Toothpicks can damage the line. I dont think there is a downside to the rubber stoppers and that what I use when I have enough forethought to keep in stock.

Great idea Aiken! I'll have to try that, I've got some small bullet shots (spilt shot bullet weights) that would would work PERFECT for that!
Thanks for sharing!

I have not ever had any problens with the toothpick method. There are some weights out now with a magnet that holds the weight on the hook.

In a pinch a rubber band will work. Tie it around the line, snip the ends off and slide it down on the weight.

I've actually used duct tape before in a pinch. A little of that backing residue, gummed up on the line in front of the sinker did kinda do the job.

If you forget your sinker stops or other pegging materials, you can use the tag end of your line to tie the sinker in place.

I've tried toothpicks last year again, and hated them even with braided line. Just too much a pain in the butt to remove them from the bullet weight. I've ordered BPS sinker stoppers with my main order, but that's the only item still back ordered. I plan on using them with 30 lb braid. If they don't hold my bullet wts in place, then I'll use a piece of mono with the braid when I slide the stop down.

Yeah, it's actually right at only 70 a day...you must be working too many hours. If you don't improve, you're not gonna reach your long-standing average of 30,000/year.

Come one WTL, admit it, there is a serious problem with your bass stats.
The weight listed for your biggest bass should be 20lbs 2ozs, not 19lb 18ozs |
