i get some of my biggest bass in cold water(45and below).if you quit now you may be missing the best fishing of the year.i like when hunting season starts.i don't hunt so i have all them big basses almost to myself.
vertical jigging produces well in cold water.a strata spoon or a fat albert grub on a standup jig head catch lots of fish.

Ya can key on on bait fish movement like shad flipping on lakes, the bass won't be far off...its not cold enough here yet to get a good bite, water temps yesterday were 68 degrees. Theres plenty of shad flipping tho, small ones about the size of a quarter up to the 3 inch size. I threw crome rattle trap but in the smaller size , trying to match the hatch

Go hunting in the early morning, then fishing during the late morning mid afternoon, then back to the tree for the evening, seems simple enough to me.

if you fish deeper water,it cant jump up and throw your lure, resulting in more caught fish
