Default intro...

Hey all, I just stepped in the door and thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm 34 years old, married, 1 kid, fishing out of southwest Virginia, Christian (non-denominational Pentecostal-type believer), hardcore bass angler since 1990, but have caught 58 different fish species in a quest to reach 200.

I'm hoping to get a chance to chase largemouths and Guadalupes in Florida, Mexico, and Brasil this year. My wife is Brasilian and we may go there for Christmas. My brother-in-law is an angler so he's agreed to help me with my list when I get there. As for Mexico, we've got a local guy around here, the top chef in these parts, who is known as Tóño the Mexican. He's one of my fishing buddies, and he just built a vacation home in his old hometown in western Mexico. He's been trying to get me to Mexico with him for years...

Hey Pyro Welcome...thanks for introducing yourself...lots of guys just bust up in here with a problem they need solved or to tell everybody how great they think they are or to sell something without so much as a hello. We appreciate your attitude. Make yourself at home and keep us abreast of the quest for 200...worthy aspiration. We love pics. Ken

Guads are on my list as well. The last bass species I have failed to catch. I also really wanto to get some brookies, the last of the big 4 trout on my list.

Anyway, welcome to the board.

Last spring I figured out that a lot of the trout being stocked in my local lake were brookies. I'd caught a native one in a stream in 1990 when I was 12 years old and then didn't get another one 'til May 6 of last year. From 5/6 to 5/9 I caught 3 and got Tóño the Mexican his first one.

As for the Guadalupes, I found out a few months ago that the states of São Paulo and Minas Geráis in Brasil bought them from the Texas government for several years and stocked them heavily along with largemouths in several rivers, including the Tietê, which runs very close to where my in-laws live.

So you know where Elliston is. I've lived here since the late 80's, grew up in Radford.

I know Elliston well. When I lived in Roanoke I often took the scenic route to C'burg & B'burg. I have a good friend who lives there, name of Heather Walker. You know her by any chance?

Welcome to the site Pyro. I'm looking foreward to seeing some of your pics, especially of the ones you catch in Brazil. Have you caught any of those freaky species you see that guy catch in the show River Monsters?

Bcklash, I don't know exactly where she lives but her maiden name was Hadden.

To the rest of you, I haven't been to Brasil yet but my brother-in-law is pretty sure he can help me find some peacock bass (there are actually 13 species, only 8 of which have been named, and I want the blue one most of all), as well as some trairão (referred to as wolf fish on River Monsters and The Hunt For Big Fish) and possibly some paiara (the vampire fish).
