Default Shipping a rod?

I imagine several around here have experience doing this.
Carrier?
Cost?
1 piece? 2 piece?

I've got a few rods I wanna list on ebay, but I'm ascairt that the cost of shipping might give me the Ned Beatty treatment

We buy and sell all the time, I get rods in a four inch diameter tube that is about several inches longer than the rod. As far as weight for shipping goes, you can get an estimated weight of your package and contact UPS or the postal service or others and see what the cost will be to ship, They probably have all that info online about shipping cost.
I average about six to nine bucks or less to ship anywhere in the US or canada.

That doesn't sound too bad. The shipping tubes will be no problem. I'm a flat roofer and our membranes come on heavy duty cardboard tubes.
Thanx for the info

first off, start with a 3" diamete THIN WALLED PVC pipe. like JB said, a few inches longer than the rod. we use newspaper at either end to keep the rod from moving.

it's normally about $15.00 USPS.

JB, how you get such a low price from UPS? don't they charge you for oversized items?

I've heard of using PVC but the cardboard would be lighter

Default My experience...

I had a muskie rod arrive in a heavyweight cardboard tube... it was broken in half, as if a truck ran over it.

I vote for PVC at all times. Home Depot sells a variety of sizes of PVC tubes.

Best to All,
VinnyH

I used SCH80 PVC one time. It was expensive but no way was it going to be damaged. Just make sure you buy the insurance, it is very cheap.

I'd definitely buy the insurance. As long as they're not abused, these cardboard tubes will hold up just fine
