Default Help from some strangers

I had a bad, and then a very great experience today that I thought I'd share. I had the afternoon off, so I decided to go practice crankbaitng in a small little pond close by home. I picked up my boat headed to the pond, and launched the boat. When trying to pull out I realized I was stuck . I called my dad, who was possibly gonna join me later, and said even if you don't come fishing, bring me a shovel. Now I went ahead and fished, since there was nothing else to do until dad got there. I caught a couple of keepers, and then a jeep pulled in with 2 waverunners on a trailer My first thought was they were lost, but then they looked at my truck there, and moved father down to launch their waverunners. Mind you this pond is about 5-7 acres big I went down and apologized for blocking what I thought was the only ramp, and they asked if I was stuck. I of course turned red, and admitted to it . They offered to help me out with their 4 wheel drive. I said thank you, and said when they were ready to leave, I would be very grateful for the help. Well the jetted around, but the waverunners weren't running right(they were local mechanics testing them out ) Then then came over and were ready to help out, but had the trailer hooked up. At that moment another young man pulled in with a big 4-wheel truck and asked if he could help. He had a tow strap and had me out in seconds I didn't even have a beer to offer them, but did give the last guy a Mt Dew, and offered to give them some cash. They all declined and said they were happy to help out Just thought some of you would like to know there are still some good guys out there everyday who will help you out in a jam. I of course was not gonna try to launch my boat again from the other ramp, not having 4-wheel drive bites, after having it for the last 10 years

One thing I can definately say about people from Jacksonville and the surrounding area is they are more than willing to help out. They dont raise hell if youre fishing in their pond. They dont mind to loan you some bait if you need it and theyll show you everything they know-as did my brother-in-law and his father from Hilliard. People down this way just arent that helpfull/friendly whatever you want to say.

More than once, while preparing to launch or recover, my friend Rebbasser and I have assisted someone who was having a tough time at the ramp either driving their vehicle up the ramp or helping get their boat on the trailer. Sometimes it's nothing more than offering to back them in the last few feet then parking their vehicle and bringing them their keys.
Any little thing you can do for another person is deeply rewarding to one's self, and in a good way.
Of course, sometimes it's to clear the ramp because some bonehead with a "S--t boat" (See: Other than bassboat) is fumbling around and wasting OUR time, but the gesture in nonetheless meaningful.
It usually goes something like this..."Reb, that guy is having trouble. I'll put you on the dock and you can go help him while I make a few casts!"
Works like a charm!

We've helped our fair share of boaters on the ramp too, one day
it was obvious a young boater was having problems starting the engine,
we pulled up to the ramp only to find others in line waiting to launch,
a quick view of the motor revealed a plug wire was loose, the owner was grateful that we could help, and offered a photo op for our troubles
**link** (our view of the owner attempting to fix
the motor)

That's dangerous, working on engines that way. I wouldn't go poking around a motor like that, with all that er...hair hangin down.

Yeah, and I always tell him if he catches one while I'm doing my good deed he walks home . Whenever I help somebody like that and they offer to pay or whatever I always tell them to pay it forward-do something nice for someone else.

Thanks agambill.... Yeah, most people around here are pretty easy to get along with. We've been having a bit of a yuppie invasion lately, but we're changin them more than they're changin us

Glad you got out of there liz....As I've recently learned by riding with friends in newly purchased, old trucks, being stuck in the mud SUCKS
