Angry Dang it!

Took my father in law out this evening on an electrics only lake. Great time, caught 3, but then it came time to head back to the ramp. Almost dark-this is key. Got out of the truck, turned the lights off-this is also key-went back to the boat and ran it towards the trailer. Trolling motor, no big engine. Remember, it is almost dark and no lights.

Anybody want to guess what happened?

Here is a clue: Ever see a trolling motor with a 45 degree angle in the middle of the shaft?

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really try not to load with the TM, it is tricky and I don't like doing it. Luckily the worst I've done is hit a blade on a bunk so far. There's a lake near me that has a 125HP limit(???), but net time I think I will use the big motor to load.

bender, i use the troller to load my rig alot. BUT NOT AT DARK. so sorry man. can you replace the shaft? or are you gonna have to replace the troller? i am gonna (one day, lol) see about mounting some lights UNDER the rear bumper on the truck and under the boat trailer. seen it on a felas outfit once. makes it REAL easy to load after dark.

Yeah, I can't imagine it would be illegal to fire up the big motor just to get the boat on the trailer. I could be wrong, but man, a DNR guy would have to be the biggest jerk in the world to write you up for that.

there are a lot of private/members only lakes that are VERY strict about using outboards on their lake. some won't even let you launch one.

Get some LED waterproof lights to mount under and inside the frame at the back of the boat trailer. Enough to see them at night and also helps backing up and seeing when you are working in that area at night.
Usually the few I have seen have a switch towards the front of the trailer so it is not on while traveling.

That's what I was trying to do-like I said, almost dark and couldn't see end of trailer

I've got a spare Motor Guide 12/24 V here at the house that you can use while yours is being repaired/replaced. It's for a project boat I'm working on & I won't be needing it anytime soon.
