Default Some People Just Have No Decency

Well my 8 month old basset hound was run over the other day... and I had to hear about it from a neighbor... not the person who did it. My neighbor who saw the whole thing happen said it was a red SUV, and the person didn't even stop, or hit the brakes for that matter. This person didn't have a bit of common decency and left my dog on the side of the road yelping from pain I couldn't imagine.

She is alive with a crushed pelvis, a perforated bladder, and perforated colon. It is unclear at this point whether or not she'll make it. The ultrasound didn't show any internal injury to the vital organs. The crushed pelvis is crushed in a way that should allow it to heal on it's own. Luckily the break was behind the leg joints so if she makes it she should still be able to walk and run with no ill effects except some arthritis later in life.

People are dicks. Really sorry about your dog man. Animals are resilient, hopefully she will make a full recovery.

I really hate reading stories like this one. How can anyone injure an animal and not feel compelled to stop and seek help for the animal? I hope your dog make a fast recovery and is back to it's old self soon.

Hopefully the perpetrator someday will suffer asimilar fate!
Really sorry to hear the news.
You know, where I live, even if you hit a squirrel and don't report it, it's a ticketable event.

Sad story, I hope your pup does well. Goes to show that not all people share the same love and respect for animals as most in the fishing community.

So very true. Most people wouldn't believe that fishermen and hunters are some of the biggest animal lovers you will ever find.

People amaze me with their lack of thought, compassion, and responsibility for their own actions. Sorry to hear this and shall be praying for a full recovery.

I ran over a dog earlier in the year with the family watching. I got out of the truck, yelled "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", and spent 30 minutes apologizing, even though it was the dog that darted out in front of me thanks to the negligence of the owners.

I went by the next day, and was told that the dog was just knocked out cold, and alive and well.

I think the world is comprised of 3 types of people.
When running over a dog:
1) One group stops, worried about the dog.
2) The second group stops, worried about damage to their car.
3) The third group doesn't even stop.

People that have no compassion for dogs(and animals in general), that would hit a dog and not stop(I do believe it is the Law), are Socio-paths, and in reality are a danger to all of us, and society as a whole, because if they have no empathy for animals, they rarely have empathy for their fellow humans.

Sorry to hear about your pooch TN. I am constantly amazed at the lack of compasion some people have. I hope that karma takes a bite out of the *** of whoever ran over your dog and didn't stop.

I sure hope your dog makes it TN. The same person that can leave an injured dog would probably leave a person just the same.

Thanks for the well wishes guys

I talked to the vet today and they said that they didn't find any blood in either the urine or stool over the weekend and that Daisy should be able to return home tomorrow for an 8-10 week recovery period with no walking during most of this time...

As far as the driver of the red suv is concerned they had best hope they don't get caught driving down my road again.

There is a KEY statement in the above post. "the dog that darted out in front of me thanks to the negligence of the owners." The responsibility has to go both ways. They make leashes if the yard is not fenced.

I hope the little pooch heals well.

Well Daisy is home and resting since yesterday... The only issue right now is that she is having trouble using the restroom because of her injured colon and bladder. She has gone one time since coming home and if she doesn't start going more frequently we'll have to take her back to the vet for a catheter. This would be unfortunate because it would cut into her healing time and her therapy.

Back when I was married, in Florida, I was sittin home one night when my wife burst into the house, damn near hysterical.

By the time she was able to tell me what happened, I had it in my head that she'd hit a person.
Turns out it was a puppy, in our subdivision. She told me what street and I went lookin for it.
Found it, and it was dead. Knocked on the door of the closest house, and they told me it might be the next door neighbor. Nobody was home there, so I left a note, explaining the situation, told them I had the puppy at my house and left my number.

Either it was the wrong house, or they didn't feel like burying it. I didn't either so I tossed it in a dumpster. Probably should have buried it.....

We've thought of that... and it seems at the moment, the antibiotic that she is on is keeping her pretty soft. I just hope the pain meds she's on don't start to stop her up.
