Woohoo. I finally got my Revo STX high speed from USPS. Left-hand, of course. Man, this thing is so silky smooth...I can't wait to get it home and throw a washer around with it to see how far it casts. Those Abu Silver Max's I have are pretty decent, but I'll never look at them the same now.

Well, I have three baitcasting rods (Two lightning rods and my new Cabela's).

I have three reels (Two Silver Max and the Revo STX).

I'm thinking about keeping a Silver Max on the lightning rod for spinnerbaits. Since they're heavy, I don't need the STX to cast a mile.

I'm also going to leave a Silver Max on the other lightning rod for jigging. I don't usually cast a long, long way jigging.

I'm going to put the Revo on my Cabela's for jerkbaiting, where the extra casting distance will give me more time in the strike zone.

That's the plan for now anyways. I'm going to use my spinning rods for cranking, worming, and topwater.

I would consider using that Revo for worming and flipping weighted plastics man unless you don't want to but that would be the direction i would head with it .

Yeah, it would make a good reels to fish worms. what length/power is your Cabela's rod?

around here, we just don't have the kind of lakes and vegetation where a heavy baitcasting setup is needed for worming. So I use high-vis yellow mono and fluoro leaders (when called for) for my worm rigging, which works well with my spinning reels.

My Cabela's XML is 5'-6" medium. I'm probably going to use 12lb fluoro for the sinking and invisibility...not totally sure about the lb test yet. We'll see.

ok. Sounds good, although I'd use 10lb. I use 10lb fluoroclear on a 7' M baitcaster for lighter plastics and such, but I'm eventually going to switch it to fluorocarbon.

I can understand that , bout the only thing i use my spinning reels for these days are small weightless worms like 4inch and under, and small sluggo's and fluke's other than that everything else gets thrown off a baitcaster , well okay maybe not everything but close to it .

You are mostly gonna throw jerkbaits with it ? if so then prob go 12 ta 14lb fluoro or 10 ta 12lb if ya planned on tieing on the occasional crankbait .

You think like I do, Jim. I figure the "jerkbait" rod will pull double duty in the Spring as a shallow crankbait rod. In which case 12lb fluoro would still be good for shallow flats with sticks.

Now I don't know what I'll do when I send in my 6'6" M St. Croix spinning rod to get fixed. I don't even have any more spinning reels. I figure 7 fishing poles is all I want to take on the boat at once haha.

Just as a funny addition. I just bought a 6'6" and a 7' Cabela's XML, both medium-heavy, for $103 after shipping to replace my two Lightning Rods (jig and spinnerbait). Okay....that is IT for a while on tackle. At least as long as the stock market sucks, I figure it's probably a better investment.

now now, unless you fill out the appropriate forms and the baitmonkey OK's it, you are never allowed to "replace" things that aren't broken. Now, go buy yourself a couple more STX's and you'll have more rods to fish with!

I might sell the two Lightning Rods cheap or just gift them to my lesser-geared friends who still hold their spinning reels on top of their poles.

the revo is much better as far as im concerned!!!

there is no reel that can beat a revo for the price. i can throw a weightless senko a frickin mile with a revo!

Weightless senko's aren't a light bait, they are pretty heavy as far as plastics go. I can do that on all my baitcasting reels, my Daiwas, my Abu, my BPS reel.

True...but I find that weightless baits are fished so slow, huge casting distance is only important if you're after really spooky fish. That's just my opinion. 30 yards is about as far as I usually cast plastics (steady retrieve baits or surface frogs don't count!)
