It always returns to the basics!!!
I was fishing this weekend at my wife's grandmas pond...It was rainy and cold all weekend. But i had an itch and i had to get out, so yesterday after church it was only drizzleling(how ever you spell it)..So i took off to fish for a bit and especially test out my new reel...I took all my good reels and my tackle box full of new baits and old reliable baits.....however, while i was fishing I was using my more expensive takle..I could not get a bite, the same with my brother-in-law i was fishing with...THere was no sign of the fish and not nibble or anything...So he left and i was packing up to leave and i decided to try one last thing...I took my ultralight and put on these little plastic crickets i got from walmart and casted it out. In 2 casts i had a 2 pounder...but then the lightning and thunder came so i got out quick...
There are two lessons that this story teaches... 1. It does not matter about how much the rods, reels, and tackle costs or the brand name on them if the fish doesn't want to bite what you are throwing... 2. I know that with todays innovations you may have a better chance of catching fish more often...However, you can go back to tha basics and still catch fish...the baiscs being just a cricket and a hook, even though my cricket was fake..

I have cranks and spinnerbaits by the hundreds, plastic lures by the pounds and still I fish with the same baits most of the times and catch most of the fish with those same baits everywhere:
Rapala Shad Rap Culprit 7.5 in ribbontail worm Jitterbug Zara spook French Fry worms 5 inch grub 6-7 inch straight tail worm 1/2 black jig In-line spinner size 4 Single Colorado spinnerbait. Torpedo Hula popper Zoom Super Fluke or Shad Assasin Rat L-trap Thatīs what you will see dressing my rods 90% of the time. |
