Thumbs up Got a wall hanger (and pics too)!

Hey guys, I just got back from the lake about an hour or two ago. I went exploring a little on Upper Red lake (I usually fish the Lower Red). And caught a nice 7 pound (not official, just my measurements) largemouth on a Spro Bronzeye Popper Frog

Pics do no justice as always!

It's been cloudy as everything for the last few days so I put a Black Spro Bronzeye Popper Frog on. Seemed like the best thing for the conditions.

I started fishing by the boat ramp and got a little blow up, but I didn't feel the fish, but after 3 seconds I set the hook anyway. Nothing on the other end. Next cast I catch a NICE backlash viva the twig behind me. I finally get the backlash out and move down by the dock.

I make a cast parallel with the reeds, and start walkin it back, a two pound CHUNK sucks it under. Only about 14" but gawd the sucker was fat!

Nothing their so I move on up the road to the trestle train bridge. Lots of rocks and no weeds. Seems like it might be a good spot to target smallies.

(here's the good part)
I cross the trestle and find a little spot in the brush where can get to the water and wade in a bit. I get in about up to my knees, and cast to some pads intertwined with hydrilla mats. I Start poppin the frog back when one pulls it down, I reel up the slack and feel nothing so I keep walking the frog back to me. I cast out again to the same spot. It gets sucked under, I give it a sec, feel some weight so I set the hook HARD. I get it out of the weeds and she makes a jump! My first though is OMG 10 pound! lol I get it close to me and it swims between my legs and half knocks me down. I bring it close and reach down I lip it! I run to the shore so I don't drop and loose it!

Shaking like a leave on a tree, I call my dad and tell him I caught a ten pounder (what can I say I was EXISTED!!)! He says bring it home, and we'll put it on the wall.

I hop back on my bike, ride to the boat ramp, and let it get in the water, so it don't die. Some folks pull in their boat I show the pig off a little. I get back on my bike, and get home, run the house (still soppin wet) and put it in sink and fill it up! After a while I fill up a wash tub and put it in their. 22.5" length 16" girth.

Getting it mounted soon, probably gonna cost around 200 bucks, but well worth it, I'll get an official weight then!

Also I want to thank Watterboy for that frog! He gave it to me earlier this year when things were going pretty rough for us. Without you, I never would have caught it, thanks bud!

Congrats on the pig Sammy! I think the pic did it all the justice in the world. I wouldn't dispute 7 by no means.

I figure since I's caught plenty bigger bass then that down in Florida, and folks here wait their life time to catch bass like that, why not give them a change at it? It sure made me existed to catch it, and I would hate to deprive anyone of that. Sure felt good to watch her swim off like she did.

Nice fish Sammy, glad you let her go, you always have your pictures and measurements, have yourself a replica made. They last better and look very good also.

congrats.

Good job on letting her go Sammy! Like Tav said, you can always have a replica made if you want.

Wow, that fish is a tank! That is a huge fish for being in the north country. Congrats on the big fish!

Good job Sammy. Good looking fish, and I hope you're getting a replica made.

On a side note, I actually got 3 wall hangers yesterday.

Sammy, I'm an equal opportunity thread polluter.

So since you decided to let her go (which I missed first time through the thread) you gonna get a replica?

Um not sure. I'll definitely spend the 200 (or what ever it would cost to get one) on a rod/reel before I get the mount. Maybe once I get my arsenal filled out a little more I will.... But even so, I think I'd rather get my 12lber mounted... IMO it would look better on the wall!

Sam, a 7 lb largemouth where you're at is an amazing fish. Congratulations, man.

Way to go, Sammy -- awesome fish!!!!! Way to put that frog to good use!

P.S. - The LM in my pic is 6lb 9oz, 21" length, 16.5" girth, so your 7lb estimate on yours seems to be a real good estimate to me. Mine was also caught on a Black Spro Poppin' Frog.
