Default New PB Bass on weird bait, and first topwater fish!

Before 20-minutes of fishing had been through, I hooked a small one on a 1/4oz chartreuse buzzbait. This is my first topwater fish. Here's a pic or two, it's was 12-inches and maybe close to a pound. Looks smaller in pics, lol.

It looks as though it's bleeding out of it's gill. But it was really bleeding out of it's tongue/mouth, the blood was dripping out of it's mouth and exited out of it's gill. He was released unharmed.

Now the weird thing. I had a rod out with dough-bait on it for Catfish, and I get a tug. I set the hook and hooked into what I thought was a Carp, but it turned out to be an 18" Bass, about 3 or 3 1/4lbs. Wasn't too much of a fight with saltwater gear...

Them deep hooked ones I think usually die. I could be wrong. I normally have problems when its windy and the senko bite is light with deep hook sets , as I dont notice the bite fast enough. I usually dont bother with taking the hook out , as it will do more damage , I just cut the line, remove the bait and release.

I'm almost sure it lived, as I didn't see anything floating. But I may have been wrong...I'd rather have one that was going to die with a hook out of it then one that is going to die with a Buzzbait in it's mouth.

Thanks guys. Yeah the Bass on dough-bait was weird..

I didnt suggest you should leave a buzzbait in its mouth. I said what I do with senko worm fishing and deep hooksets. None the less , I read recently in a BassTimes that the majority of bass that die actually sink instead of float.

In the supplied link , 4th paragraph it states that fish often float days later. http://www.texs.com/bass_mortality_study/study.htm

The last two paragraphs in this link are interesting.
