Default Replica mount

Well, after almost two years of procrastinating, I finally ordered my first-ever fish mount. It will be a replica mount of the first 20" Largemouth I ever caught, the details of which are in this thread. Even though I've caught a couple over 6 pounds, I decided to get a mount of this one (5lb 1oz) since it was caught on the lake where we have our cabin and it will be displayed up there. I can always get my biggest (6lb 9oz) mounted someday, too, if I feel like it.

The guy who is doing the work for me won a "1984 Best in World Largemouth Bass" award, and I got to see some of the stuff in his shop on Saturday morning. It all looked AMAZING! He had a couple of Smallmouth mounts on display that were just incredible. I really need to nail my first 20" Smallie so I can get another one done.

My LM will be encased in plexiglass with an oak base around the bottom and the bass will look like it's jumping out of the water. It should be done in about 4 months, so I can post pics of it this summer.

OK, so the estimated 4 months to get this done turned into 6, but I found out today my bass mount is done! I hope to be able to pick it up tomorrow after work, but it might have to wait until next Monday if I can't get down there before 5:00 tomorrow evening. At any rate, I should have a picture of it to post within the next few days!

Look forward to seeing it. The earlier replicas didnt look that great, but Im sure they are getting better and better. It is better for conservation, and in theory, a fine artist such as the one you selected may be able to make a replica better than a skin mount.

I heard they don't yellow like a regular mount, as well

My appointment after work on Wednesday ran long, so I didn't have time to make the 30 minute drive to pick it up before he closed. And we headed up to the lake right after work on Thursday, so I will pick it up when we get back on Monday afternoon.

I just got in from 2 windy hours on the water and caught one fish. It was fun, though, because it was my second biggest LM on "our" lake this year...3lb 11oz and 18.25". I'll post a pic of it, too, when I get it off the camera.

I am excited to see this mount, Watterboy. I need to be a more prepared fisherman and so I can return fish to the water unharmed but still get a mount. Along with a pic, what key measurements do you take to pass along to the taxidermist?

I gave him weight, length and girth measurements and 3 or 4 pictures so he could see the colorings, markings, etc. on that particular fish.
