Bill you will find that while most do catch and release there are just as many members that keep fish in the 1-3 pound range to eat which there is nothing wrong with think before you blast somebody and tell them that our site is not for them . I personally practice catch and release but there are many contributing members that eat a couple bass here and there i would ask bamabassman if he has any recipes lying around and welcome to the site .

Personally, I think bass aren't very good eating. With perch and gills so much tastier and so much easier to catch, I throw all bass back

I'll keep a few of the smaller keeper sized bass. If they're much bigger than a couple pounds the flavor isn't as good in my opinion. Still not a big fan of bass though. I'd explode eatting bream and crappie though if I could.
GRILLED SMALLMOUTH BASS WRAPPED IN CORNHUSKS Ingredients --------------------- 2 ears fresh corn 2 pounds smallmouth bass fillets, cut into four pieces 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut Into chunks Juice of 1 lemon (about 3 tablespoons) Salt and freshly ground black pepper Lemon wedges 1. Preheat the grill. 2. Carefully peel away the cornhusks and set aside. Pull all silk off each cob. 3. Holding the cobs upright, slice downward with a sharp knife, cutting off the corn in rows. Discard the cobs and set the cut corn aside. 4. Spread out and press flat two or three husks per fillet. Sprinkle a layer of corn on the leaves and lay a fillet at right angles to the husks, one on top of each "packet." 5. Cover the fillets with the remaining corn. Dot the corn with the chunks of butter. 6. Sprinkle the lemon juice over each fillet and season with salt and pepper. 7. Fold the husks over the top of the packets on all sides (to form an envelope shape) and secure with toothpicks. 8. Lay on the grill for about 6 minutes; turn carefully with a spatula and cook 6 minutes longer, or until husks are slightly charred. 9. Serve immediately with the lemon wedges.

sorry bill, we eat bass as much as we can. which ain't much if i am the one to depend on catching em, hahahaha. but we eat em fried, southern style. wanna try em grilled again, been a long time. we use zateran's southern style batter mix. if we grill em, we use lemon pepper over em. gently spread melted lemon and pepper on em as they grill. if you prepare largemlouth right before you fry or grill em, they are very tasty, no fishy taste at all. fillet em, put em in water with lemon juice (lemon juice takes out the fish taste). then cook em. ask the folks that attended the get together how the bass was, they will tell you, lmao. ol kevin didn't know he was eating bass till i told him, hahahahaha. ol bigbassin144 ate all the gills, lmao.
and meat, ol bb is a great cook too. he helped in the kitchen and did a FANTASTIC job.

Yesterday I went fishing and I kept 26 bass over 4 pounds. The secret was using a big enough treble to properly snag them off the beds.
Just kidding of course. I dont think it is an outrage to keep a bass to eat, I enjoy eating bass. Moderation, compliance with the law and efforts to preserve the quality and quantity of fishing should take precedence over harvest though.

Sup! Welcome to the forum!
anyways, me and my dad de this very simple, very good, hodgepodge of ingredients (wont say recipe because we never measure anything)! First fillet and skin the bass like you should always do. (make sure to lay about ten paper towels on a cookie sheet to place the bass on when you're done frying them - soke of the XS oil!) than take a pot poor it about half way with veggi oil. heat on high next mix these together in a small bowl Bread crumbs corn meal instant mashed potatoes flakes little bit of salt/pepper (less salt then pepper) a shake of paprika (some times we'll also add flour to the mix!) turn oil on med high heat. when you're done mixing it into the bowl, take a gallon size bag and put the mix into it. once you get that all mixed together in a bowl, take another bowl and crack two eggs in to it. add a slash of water, mix. take your bass fillets and dip it into the egg wash. put it in the bag and and shake the fillet with the wash around in there, and put it into the hot oil, do the same thing with the rest of the fillets! You'll know they're done when the float to the top and are golden brown.

Occasionally, we'll keep one or two, but I ALWAYS throw big ones back, but I never catch big ones... so if I did, I'd throw them back. besides, the 15-16" bass taste better. BB

But the yanks have walleye and pike - oh yeah, pickeral are good eating. We can take pressure off bass by keeping other species like pickeral snakehead or bream.

MF, we tend to keep our limits and eat them or give them to family and people who are unable to fish. We don't usually keep anything over 2 lbs for the catch and release....into grease. We usually just use some corn meal batter with some mustard splashed in. Just a typical southern fish fry like Bama said.

Most of these fish require a boat to catch and a boat is something I don't have. Also saltwater fishing is about 3 to 5 times more expensive than freshwater and the price tag only increases when you get offshore tackle excluding gas and the boat itself. However I certainly agree that saltwater fish in general taste at least a million time better than bass.

Salmon? Really? Atlantic Salmon?
Might need to pay you a visit sometime if so. I have an affinity for Salmon fishing. My personal best atlantic salmon is only about half a foot, but I still had a blast.

I have found Atlantic Salmon not to be that tasty, which makes sense, as it is not really related to the Pacific salmon species, which are indeed fine table fare.
As far as Southern/Atlantic species go, I've had most, and while I do confess a fondness for flounder and redfish, they really are no match (and nothing else is either) for walleye. All perch are flaky, white fleshed, and walleye is just the biggest true perch, so you get the biggest, most satisfying fillets. That being said, I haven't tried any raccoon or 'possum, Bama (or should I say Jed? )
