Line Break or northern pike?
i fish in a quarry with lots of bass, bluegills and crappies. Today i was using a jig and right when it hit the water my line took off and i set the hook to nothing and my jig was gone. I have heard from a guy that fishes in there that their is huge northern in there but i have never seen them with the water really clear or caught them i tried to take a picture of the line to see if anyone can tell. I have no idea what kind of line it is

That happens to me sometimes too, usually a pike does it. I had one on yesterday that was maybe the second biggest fish that I have ever had on a line. (I hooked either a muskie or a sturgeon one time in the Detroit River, didn't last long) I backed off my drag and really took it super easy because I wanted to at least see him. After I made a few gains he broke/bit me off. The line had a clean cut, above the knot. I was really disappointed that I didn't get to see him at least. Edit: That was 10# P-Line CFX Fluoro leader material.
So in your case I would bet that it was a pike or a bowfin (dogfish). Both are very aggressive and have sharp teeth. |

It's possible your know wasn't good or you already had a nick in your line. Either one of those can cause your line to break with very little force on the hookset.
