Default Spinner BAit TaCkle

What kind of pole do you prefer for spinner baits?
What kind of line?
what gear ratio?
of course it depends on the situation but for general use what do you like?

I use a 6'2" Castaway SB3 rod with a Abu Torno 3006 HSI reel, 6.3:1 ratio and 14-17 lb test.

I use a 7' Falcon 5 power rod and a Johnny Morris 6.3:1 reel and 17 lb test for burning chartruese bladed spinnerbaits over grass for smallmouths. This reels line retreive is quite a bit faster than the 6.3 :1 Torno I normally use. P N J

For 3/16 (especially non-willows) and heavier s'baits:
Falcon Cara medium/heavy 6'6" or AVID 6'6" MHF
REVO SC (The red one from Cabela's) 7:1
20 or 30 test braid, no leader

For 1/8 and some 3/16 willows:
Team AllStar 785C, 6'6" MF
Curado 100B with Chronarch50MG spool conversion (drops right in with no mods) OR 50MG, both 6.something:1
Either 20 test braid, no leader, OR P-Line ExtraStrong in 10 or twelve test OR P-Line FloroClear in same tests.

If I ever go to one ounce or heavier s'baits I may use my 7' Heavy Kistler LTA and a red REVO...IF, that is.

Right now im using a 6'6" mh fenwick rod but i like a 7 pole not sure if there would be any disadvantage or advantage to going with a 7' rod.

  • 7' pole
  • 14lb line -- or 30lb braid if fishing lots of weeds
  • 6.3:1

I don't think it really matters that much. I know it will give a longer cast though!

Quantum's spinnerbait rod's tip is so perfect for casting and is so light. I really don't think the rod can be improved anymore.

There is no way I will every find a better rod for spinnerbaits than a Quantum KVD Signature series rod. I refuse.

I use aa 6'6" MH. under normal condition, I'll use 8-10lb test mono or fluoro.

For chuckin' the spinnerbaits into the weeds at the big mud hole (Lake Hudson in MI), I'll throw it on the same rod with 30lb braid.

6-6 MH Falcon Low Rider
Team Daiwa PT 153HST reel
12 lb P-Line Floroclear.

I don't throw a single hook bait on anything less than a MH action rod.
