Default What the heck is this?

I caught two of these toothy critters today, and I'm not exactly sure what they are?.....I wanna say "Pickerel or something like that maybe"?.....I didn't even know critters like this lived in this little lake I fish.....It was a weird fishin day...I even caught a Saugeye....Must be toothy critter day.

Oh yeah.....Is it good eating?...cause i'm fixin to fillet it along with several other fish fer dinner.

Chain Pickerel.

I fished a private lake in Indiana at my relatives growing up that had a ton of those things in it.

Thanks guys....I thought it was a pickerel, but I wasn't sure.....I actually thought those guys lived in colder climates then what we have here in SW Arkansas, so I was really caught by surprise when I hooked into one this morning on a spinnerbait that got off just as I lifted him outta the water....I thought "What the heck was that"?.....then later on I caught another one on a Road Runner jig head with a chartreuse curly tail grub.

In fact the Road Runner in chartreuse color was a killer for us today on everything except bass....lol We ended up catching 6 different species of fish today, unfortunately none of those were a bass.....I dunno what those guys were up to today....I tried everything I could think of till the sun got high in the sky and Ron suddenly started catchin crappie. Then I abandoned the bass and went for food fish...hahaha. We ended up with a nice mess....I'm gonna broil me a couple of slabs tonite and save the rest till the wife returns from her trip in a couple of days.

66KF, it is a chain pickeral. They do tend to live in warmer climates than their close cousins the Northern Pike.

They have a ton of them in florida, they do just fine down south.

They have a good quality of meat, but they do have tons of little bones.
