Deep Diving Crank Advice...
I'm looking to get a deep diving crank for the reservoir lakes I'll be fishing on now that I live in Atlanta.
I'm leaning towards a Norman DD22, but I'm not sure whether to get a floating model or suspending model... I'd love to hear your thoughts on brand, model, colors, and whether to get floaters or suspenders. Last edited by Krtismo; 08-31-10 at 09:32 AM. |

I use the DD22 for Walleye fishing. We rig them on what we call a three way rig, very similar to the Zulu rig for flukes. I prefer the suspending models, but either work fine for what I am doing. I use Bumblebee, SX shad, Chart-blue with good luck. I prob have 8 to 10, they look much better once you remove them from the pkg and in my opinion are of good quality.

I agree with Bama, the Bombers are good, Strike King 6XD is a good bait, and allot of people like the SPRO Little John.

I have several of the DD22's and DD16's, both floating and suspending. I've never really noticed much difference in their ability to catch fish. But one advantage of the floating version is if your working a deep weedline, you can stop the retrieve with a floating model when you feel it start to hit a snag and it will rise above the weeds.

Norman DD22s are extremely popular deep divers.
I like Bandit cranks, and the Series 400 and Series 700 cranks would work. The Strike King Series 6 and 6XD are two more choices. BB

what type of structure ? id say floating for weeds... if your trying to get super deep might want to go suspended but your line takes account as well floro or braided sinks with your bait hmm

I like Bomber Fat Free Shads and Strike King sries 5, 6 and 6XD... i dont see the need for a suspending crank excepot in the winter... in the summer they go deep to get cooler water so they will be aggressive enough to hit the crank without pauses... in the cold water pauses may be a good idea...
as for colors... i like anything with chartreuese on it and anything red like a craw inthe early spring cold water. |

I have the added history of a floating DD22 providing me the means to find a lost fishing rod in 30 feet of water. As for color, I do great with what Norman calls "Splat Black". (white with black speckles, shad dot and red gill stripe). Both of my biggest bass came off that pattern.

I am a big fan of the DT Series of baits from Rapala.... the DT-16 and 20 should do the trick for you. The new Helsinki color works great in a lot of water colors and Hot Mustard is good for stained water. I also want to try the Strike King 6XD Crankbait.

Speaking of DD22 there's a new version of Silent DD22 like what KVD had with Silent SK 6XD. Couple of new paint job looks good too.

I just got the SK 6 series in sexy shad. I love the action on it, though I have not hooked a fish in the couple'a times I've used it.
