Default Trout as bait

I know some like to use trout painted baits for bass but don't know how popular it is. I don't fish a lot of lakes or rivers that have the two co-existing on the same body of water so I wouldn't really have a need for one. Would anyone else use this???

I'd use any pattern in any lake. They take shad pattern in non-shad lakes, trout patterns in non-trout lakes, etc., etc., etc. They also take patterns that don't look like anything in nature.

Yes they do hit trout lures even where trout do not exist or you think they dont.
And in many cases they do actually see a put n take trout that sticks around awhile ky lake has half a doz streams that empty into it that are stocked and every now and then in the lake many miles from those a blunt nosed rainbow may hit a crankbait, and all trout patterns appear to work here rainbow ,brown and brook with rainbow and brook being better.
Deer creek ohio they work in same order yet none exist there that im aware of,yet mad river 30 miles away has them -dunno.Yet pattern works about anywhere, and in many states using a game fish for bait is highly illegal.

Ya I'd throw it.

I'm a believer in color having effect on a lures success.
Not a fanatic but believe in match the hatch, color scheme wise anyways.
But I don't think the bass so much need all the right or exact match but some certainly doesn't hurt.

And that one has the green shade followed by the hint of blue with that beautiful peach/orange almost a light purple stripe.
You got the great colors distinct yet natural.

Everyone thinks a trout has to be 'rainbow' bellied.
I fish two ponds that stock Rainbows yearly. Talking 1500 per pond per year.
Now the folks that stocked last year told me that most people don't realise that most if not all rainbow stocks are sterile.
That's why they restock every year.
They then said other than stream or moving water stocks, most trout stocks in non running water can't/don't reproduce.
So the trout they stock start at nine inches, legal length.
So even though they are there, I'm not so sure 'trout' is a bass' food source of choice.

If it suspends or floats, now your talking serious spring, cold water lure.

Now if that's your art work, let me know. I probably would want in.

Oh these are pretty clear underground spring fed ponds, so these fish can see color I imagine.

Just curious Joe, does anyone ever catch any big trout from previous years stockings? They stock trout around here in the winter too but I'm pretty sure they don't survive the summer.

Yeah.
I've caught a 22in and a 24in.
Caught them and others on Arku shads and Rattlin Rappalas.
A few on X-Cabs too.
Ok, lippless.

Old timers, daily trouters, catch a couple dandies every year.

You have to see it the 2-4 weeks after the stock.
FLUKING INSANE!!!

Every person who can so much as spell the word 'fish' is out there.
Quarter of them without even a license.
Lines, bottles, garbage galore.
And they got numerous trash barrels.
I've seen dirty diapers laying along shore.
ZERO respect for others!
And I'm talking ADULTS! Kids have more common courtesy than most of their parents.
You catch a fish. Within 10 minutes you'll have a crowd fishing both sides of you and usually casting in front of you.

Buckets with 9in BASS in them.
It's enough to make you PUKE!

Then the rest of the season, normal activity.

Craziest town I've ever lived in. And I've lived in many.

The trout ponds used to get pretty crazy around here too, especially when they first started doing it. It never ceases to amaze me how rude some people can be while bank fishing. I can't tell you the number of times I've had someone come set up shop within 10' of where I was fishing when we were the only people fishing that day, the whole pond/creek/lake would be open, (not just at the trout pond.) I've had words with people on more than one occasion.

I've developed an "around the world" cast just for those people. It involves a heavy sinker and large treble hook. Have a 6 ounce sinker and 12/0 treble whizz past your head a couple times and it will get people moving

If I squint a little it could pass for a crappie. I've caught fish on some cranks that I glued pictures of my wife on and clear coated over.
