Default Help with new setup

ive started bass fishing not that long ago but have been fishing all my life. ive started fishing freshwater for about a good year now. Im currently using a shimano reel with some no name brand rod that ive used since i was a kid. I feel its time i got a new setup so ill narrow it down as much as possible. After reading reviews im leaning towards a shimano combo because i personally know their reliable and top of the line quality,(asking for any suggestions as to what rod and what reel). I have a budget of about 50-70 dollars. I would also appreciate any other recommendations that fit in my budget(other brands). Thx for your help guys.

Any quantum or shimano rod from 40-70 bucks would do the job, or go online to basspro and get a Bionic blade rod

I have used Quantum gear for over 6 years now and everytime I buy a new stuff I always go with them. You can check out basspro or cabelas, they usually have combos that are reasonably priced.

I would recommend a Berkley Lighting Stick 6'0" MH one piece which is $30.00. Them for a reel I would get a Mitchell Avocet S2000 which is $20.00. You can get both at your local walmart for a great price of $50.00!

I usually feel the rod and see how light it is, as well as balance,, usually you can take the rod and right above the cork grip is a balance point. Also if you can look them over in person take note of the flexibility in the last 18 inches, that varies a tad from one to another, I'd also recommend a 6ft 6 rod medium heavy 8)

Go with Shimano, you won't be disapointed.

In my humble opinion I would go with this reel from Cabela's on sale right now for a great price.

Or get on E-Bay and check out the Janis Pinnacle's. A guy name Aegis usually has 3 or 4 for sale at a time and you can usually pick them up for $30.00-$40.00. It's the same reel as the Cabela's reel. I have two of them and really like them.

not a shimono fan -of the bass rods- but to me a fenwick feels better and is a heap lighter. imo that a rod don't feel right in my hand unless there is a reel on it. i use mostly quatum reels with a pfluger and ambassador torno thrown in.really liking that pfluger buy the way.
